So I have a question about ASP but specifically the electronics. I just got my ASP hilt in the mail today and am interested in getting the electronic guts in the future. How easy is it to instal them in the empty hilt? Or does it require me to send it back and have SF instal it?

It's designed so that you can self-install. This may help you:

Installing a stunt was pretty easy on my first try, and my second was even easier. I would recommend putting the switch in place, plugging it into the wiring, connecting the emitter and connecting the LED to the wiring harness, and then seating the battery in the grip and locking it all down - it lets you make sure everything's in snug and not getting bent up or crammed in the wrong way.

It honestly looks like a saber with sound would be even easier, since the board, battery, and speaker all go into a pre-wired chassis for you from the pictures I've seen.

Best advice I can give is just take your time, go slow, and don't be afraid to back up or doublecheck things if you're not 100% sure something is right.

This is a nice real world ASP construction video.

It doesn't show installing the actual switch (which is the only bit i'm actually worried about) but it's pretty good.

So you didn't get a recharge port for your ASP build, Why not ?

Realrebelus,

The initial release of ASP is without recharge Ports. I'm guessing it was too complicated to offer out on the first go. There was a posting early on from Phil stating that a recharge port was something they would release later on.

Are electronic parts available separately?

What are the options, and how does one go about ordering individual parts as all I can find on the site are complete sabers to standard build patterns? (I am more than happy wiring and soldering, calculating ballast resistor values for leds for given battery voltages etc)

I read something about a new board coming soon that will allow greater functionality - and I would definitely be waiting for that one if it is true. Does anyone have information on this?

Thank you

It takes a special kind of idiot to use a saber.

now... they will have tested all the different configurations for fit right?
There's been a few reports of the battery pack not fitting in some hilts.. I just made a quick photoshop test and it seems that my battery pack and switch will overlap in the hilt.. obviously this is just a rough guess.

Ah well, just another month or 2 and I guess I'll find out :D

Currently the only way to get an ASP saber is to have pre-ordered one. They did just say that they plan on making the public release at the end of the month however.

I did the LED only tier for my ASP saber, and I too will most likely upgrade and get a soundboard once ASP goes out to the public. All I have is basic soldering equipment and a little circuits knowledge, so I am hoping it won't be too difficult to install or require a new battery setup. Has anyone received an ASP with sound that can tell me a little bit about how it goes in/what their setup looks like? The only sabers I have seen in the review section so far are warriors/initiates.
