Will there be ASP organic parts similar to the Sith Lords from Star Wars Legacy series? There sabers hilts have rough edges and look very LOTR. I'm working on a Sith costume based in this era.

I doubt it, because the cost of machining such pieces is much higher in comparison... I also haven't heard any plans of them doing that.

However; they are opening a customs shop soon, and they did have teaser images on facebook about a rancor tooth sleeve they had created that would fit around a consular saber, making tenel ka's lightsaber from the old EU; when the shop opens, they MAY be able to accomodate some types of special requests with organic-looking sabers.

If so, that would multiply the possibilities for cool combo sabers tenfold! Exciting possibilities are brewing at The Forge!
Imagine what you will know tomorrow....

The tricky thing about organic looking parts is that they're much harder to mass produce in aluminum (Saber Forge's main medium) because of all the curves and irregular shapes. I've actually thought about this before and you'd probably have to take the "base" saber to a blacksmith or artisan jeweler to get tendrils/nodules/etc. added. Most organic looking sabers I've seen are super iffy looking because the maker utilized molding clay on top of pvc piping or the like. The legit organic sabers are typically scratch builds from pro prop makers.

Okay so it's expensive and difficult,. hmm I may have a solution. The pommel that screws on could have the a Rancor tooth, or you could have a pommel that screws on with 2-4 teeth or claws on it. I think that would be cost effective. The teeth or claws could be resin props the screw or glue in.

Even to screw them in, you're looking at a higher cost for the drilling. But, that falls under what the custom shop may be able to do for you as well once they're set up and running.

I really cannot wait to see what comes out of the custom shop. I'd love to see some seriously crazy stuff.

Wait! We wouldn't be getting ACTUAL rancor teeth? Never mind that then, what's the point? :p

I think I spoke about organic parts in the "New SF releases" post. I once saw an episode of The Clone Wars where a Wookie Padawan creates his own hilt based on Kashyyyk wood, and it's just beautiful! I would LOVE having one of those with me.

I have a good friend in France that works wood, he's not a professionnal or anything, but he does have a bit of money lying around and always wanted to do some wood working (actual wood working :p). He's gotten pretty good I have to say.

Having Gungi's Wooden Lighsaber hilt would be awesome!

I think it would be tricky but not impossible. I think the key would be some sort of laser etched, 3d printed, or vinyl aplication. There are plenty of commercial and architectural products out there that use these. I would love a Gungi saber!

I think the best option is for someone to sculpt the hilt and then make resin casts. It's probably the cheapest route, and you don't have to worry about them looking cheap since the "actual" sabers aren't made of metal anyways.

Resin casts would work. And certainly are the most cost effective solution. However, some woods are not so expensive that they're out of reach, and they also have some pretty nice aesthetics!

I know the names in French, I'll find them later in English and will update :)
