With emitter delete, yes it was more for aesthetics however it still returns durability for light play and light duelling, not so much for moderate and heavy. VV does have a standard emitter option that has an extended blade socket wall to reinforce blade retention however other makers of thin necks continue to use shallow blade sockets and warrant duelling. It really depends on how you define your intensity of said duel.
