I mocked up the gold powdercoat I want on the body, going to have to use a little imagination here haha.

I’m going to remove the powder coat off the ends of the body down to the plain metal and add my own weather to it and the switch. Emitter will have an acid weather finish.

It’s as close to gold as I could get but I may even decide to go with bronze. Now I just need to wait for the parts to restock!

Very nice. I'm wondering why SaberForge wouldn't accommodate your request for this finish. They do have a custom shop RIGHT?!?! It make no sense to me that they offer so many options and then say they can't/won't do a specific finish. Not like what you're asking for is that intricate or detailed. Have you tried getting a custom quote?

I'm glad he posted a picture. I was very confused by his description of what he wanted when I read it yesterday. What he's after may require, "too much taping off" by the customs shop. But now that I see what he wants, I can't see why they couldn't do it.
If you don't mind the inside sections of the grip being gloss black, you could just have them tape off the ends and shoot the trans gold over the center section only. Try sending a pic with the email as you have it shown.
You never know.
Another option would be to use Rub & Buff once you receive it.

Hi all,

I am by no means an expert on Powder coating (though I can create designs that gets certain people's attention it seems  ) but isn't there a liquid paste masking fluid that can be painted into the recesses so only the blocks would be coated, then you peel away the masking fluid afterwards? That would remove the need to "Tape" the hilt.

This info I got from a forum/website dedicated to powder coating when researching how far advanced I could make my designs.

kind regards,
For Tyeth

I just sent off a customs request with a pic attached for reference.

Updated pics.

I knocked up what i thought it would look like with the transparent copper. And another version that is toned down on the yellow which is what I imagine the brass would look like.

I actually want the finish in gold vein, which i’ve just sent a custom quote request in for. But I’m preparing for worst case scenario.

1) Order in Gold Vein
2) Sand the ends back to silver
3) Spray the part with a black enamel
4) Give hilt ~10-15 minutes to be safe to handle
5) Clean part with laquer-thinner soaked rag (not dripping-wet). You'll expose the gold vein on the grenade and silver parts you sanded earlier, while leaving black in the recesses.

My man, thankyou!

I should like, tape the ends that I already sanded back though yeah?

So from the pic you posted, you only want the raised bits of the grenade section colored.

@Kouri great advice, especially if his custom quote is absurdly high or denied.

Correct, but the sanded areas also have that black ring detail which may stay gold vein unless you decide to use trans gold instead. SF claims that transparent powdercoats will reveal the underlined black finish, so consider that also.

Precisely. Pretty sure I’ll just spray the balck accent rings too. I want gold vein specifically because of the texture, just my little story behind the saber haha.

I may have misinterpreted Kouri's technique. Sanding the finish on the ends back to silver including the ring detail at the top and bottom. No taping then spray black, wait alotted time, then wipe clean the areas you want silver(ends) and gold vein(grip). Similar to applying and wiping away a wash on a model to reveal line detail whilst leaving the desired finish elsewhere. So no taping.
