Sorry, don't know where to put this...

So why are so many ppl against shipping out of country??
I've had three different sellers (here and eBay) turn down PayPal money bc of shipping overseas. I really don't understand what the problem is.

I'm an American who works in another country, why would someone not sell to me?

I always wondered this too.
I'm in Canada and have issues sometimes with people not wanting to ship across the border never mind over seas.
All they are doing is writing an address on a box.
The buyer is paying the shipping (and added insurance if wanted) already? I never understood the problem.

Shipping within the US, (as you know) you go to the post office, pay a few bucks after waiting in line, and you're done and out of there. Shipping internationally, you have customs forms to fill out, (which can be confusing if you've never done it before) shipping is usually quite a bit more, and the bottom line is, it takes time. People don't want to spend that time filling out forms and standing in lines, especially around this time of year. Yes, it's a drag, but what's your time worth to you?
Plus with ebay, it's way easier to scam the seller. Ask Darth Squidious about that one. Sure, you might be the exception, but people aren't willing to take the chance with overseas shipping unless they know you.
That's just my thoughts. I could be wrong. It's happened before. :D

So, in other words. Laziness?
Cant wait in line and fill out a form for someone that just paid money for something they were selling.

What does shipping costs matter if the buyer already has agreed to pay them?

Idk about scamming the seller. If you use registered mail with insurance, it is virtually impossible.
As for forms and waiting in line, it's the same line for domestic or intl. And the forms aren't really that bad, it's like 2 or 3 extra lines.

I still don't see what the BIG problem is but I truly appreciate the answer wamphyri13.

It's just weird bc I belong to other online communities where we trade hundred if not thousand dollar pieces of gear overseas without knowing the other person at all. These are trades where you go on faith that the other person will do what they say.

That's just where I'm coming from.

Couldn't the seller just charge an extra $5 for the "trouble" of filling out a few extra lines?

Maybe that's why a lot of sabers go unsold.

In short, yes. Most people (generalizing here) regardless of the fact that money is involved, would much rather just wait for an easier (local) sale. They feel it's just not worth the time and effort. I've only shipped internationally a couple of times on ebay. For the newbie, it can be kind of difficult. Sure, it can be done, but some people just won't take the time to try. There's also the fear of getting screwed over by the buyer overseas through some sort of scam. They just don't want to take the chance.
For me, here and on a few other forums, I'll take the chance only after I've seen the persons history on that forum. People that have high reputation, lots of positive feedback, high, helpful post counts, etc. will usually garner more outright trust than the guy with 2 posts who's only joined to sell something.
I don't fault either of you for the aggravation. You find what you want, only to feel your money's no good because you're outside of our border.
I'd deal with you, though. If I had anything to deal with.

Appreciate that!

It's just weird to me. Of course I will respect the sellers intentions though.

More risk shipping internationally too. Have to go through customs and then the other country's postal service... which could even be worse than the USPS. Then if something does go wrong (lost/damaged), instead of filing a claim with the shipping service, a buyer will just file with PayPal and screw the seller.

Also, I've had just about every international buyer either refuse to pay the extra shipping or just ghost me once I've given them my PayPal to send to. Less hassle to just put CONUS ONLY and only get serious international buyers PM me to ask if I'd ship to their country.

That's crazy. Why would anyone international expect not to pay shipping?

Well, if I ever see your sales and I'm interested, i'Il ignore the conus and send you a PM, is that cool?

Ship it to a friend based in America if the seller is too lazy and risk averse to do so. Then have the friend ship it to you.

While not impossible, it creates an even higher shipping cost and more opportunity for damage.

Plus, I don't really want to involve friends and family unless it's very important (I've done this before but only for something pressing and impossible otherwise).

But yeah it's an option for some.

It is the only safe option. Domestic shipping in American is not costly.
