Would you guys consider what Luke wears in the beginning of Jedi and (SPOLERS) at then end of TFA to be a robe? Or is that a cloak? And has anyone found any good patterns for one? I've mostly seen robes but I'd prefer one without sleeves.

@Ludacris
I've been using that Rebel Legion one @Anorris posted, it's pretty well put together. I'm not done yet, but I'll share some pictures of the process. Edit: @Anorris' link actually goes to the tunic tutorial; the robe tutorial can be found here.

@Erderich
I'd call that a cloak. Luke has historically been more of a cloak guy XD I haven't encountered any cloak patterns myself, though.

Hi Erderich,

I think Luke is wearing a cloak as when he reaches out to Artoo's dome a lot of his tunic sleeve can be seen, if it was a robe much more of the robe's sleeve would be seen.
He also wore a cloak in ROTJ instead of a robe, it made it easier for him to discard it when facing the Rancor in the pit. When he faced Jabba he held it closed then reached out from under it when he Force pulled the blaster.

Kind regards,

For Tyeth

Yeah as For and others above have said: Luke ROTJ is def wearing a "cloak". There are places to buy it but i haven't noticed a tutorial for making it yourself yet. The rebel legion forums have a great set of tutorials on how to build alot of the jedi uniform. The tunic, the robe, even the belts and pouches. Theres alot of great info on those forums.

You can always look on Etsy for belts and robes as well if you wish to just buy one and not make it.

I spent about $8 (thanks to a gift card) on a set of twin sheets to practice on, and we just got the final fabric; a linen that we got on sale for about $60 for 9 yards(the tutorial uses 8.5).

Luke is definitely wearing robes at the end of TFA, they look a lot like the ones used by Ben Kenobi in ANH. I guess the robes make him look more like a legit Jedi
Light and darkness, you cannot have one without the other. To achieve equilibriem you must be in harmony with both; the path between.

I don't think so. It looked like a cloak attached to his tunic. I didn't notice any sleeves...oops, guess I'm gonna have to see it again XD

Hi all,

I think we're all correct, from a certain point of view. I took a closer look at the pic Snakeeyz99 posted above and the cloak (dark part) appears to be stitched to the oatmeal coloured tabards! I have circled the areas where it looks stitched, sorry its crooked slightly the mouse pad on my laptop isn't great.

Stitching in the red marked areas:

We may have solved the mystery!

It all really depends, I personally bought my robe, others who are more experienced at crafting can make it. Crafting can be cheaper and more rewarding. It really is your personal preference.
