Profile: Lord Felflame (born Kasius Hake)
Born: 3669 BBY, Drommund Kaas
Born to a family of traders on Dromund Kaas, Kasius Hake grew up in a war-time supply business. The Sith Empire was well into its campaign against the Republic and the Jedi. Early in life, Kasius grew fond of history and relics of the ancient Sith, but because of Imperial laws, was never allowed to study.
When closing in on age 16, soon before he would have been drafted into the Imperial military, a Sith Lord doing business with his father picked up a trace of Force sensitivity. After investigating further, the Sith Lord had Kasius removed from his home and immediately sent to Korriban for training at the Sith Academy, per Imperial law.
Through mostly wit and latent Force powers, rather than deception or brute strength, Kasius passed his trials on Korriban and was taken in as an apprentice to Darth Kerosin. It was not long after leaving Korriban as an apprentice that the Sacking, and consequent Treaty of Courascant occurred, ending outright hostilities with the Republic. This gave Darth Kerosin and his new apprentice ample time to focus on their search for lost Sith caches and holocrons, in tombs and sanctuaries scattered throughout the Outer Rim.
For nearly seven years, master and apprentice explored planets that most others, Republic and Sith alike, dared not commit resources to, leaving the pair relatively unimpeded in their tasks. All the while, Kasius learned everything he could from the artifacts, holocrons, and other relics that were unearthed in their search, whether or not Darth Kerosin allowed it.
During a dig in a largely uncharted area of the planet Dathomir, Darth Kerosin and Kasius were in the midst of traversing an ancient, unmarked Sith tomb. While split up within the tomb, Kasius discovered a coffer that emanated the dark side of the Force. Drawn to it like a moth to a bright light, Kasius could not resist opening the coffer himself, rather than informing his master of the discovery.
Inside the coffer laid three items: a menacing mask that had not been worn in centuries, a well-worn lightsaber hilt with fangs on the emitter and what appeared to be burn marks down the shaft, and a holocron that begun glowing red and purple as Kasius reached in to touch it.
The items inside belonged to Darth Ignacious, a Sith lord from centuries prior. The holocron contained knowledge of Sith alchemy, focusing on a long lost methods of Force-powered pyrokenesis. Nearly all Sith were taught how to generate and direct Force lightning, but none knew how to do the same with fire.
Picking up the holocron to examine it, Kasius realized that it was not the source of the dark side energy he felt. Instead, it seemed to radiate from the mask. Picking it up the mask to examine it, Kasius thought he heard faint whispers around him, goading him to put on the mask. Curious, he did so, and as a result came into contact with the force ghost of Darth Ignacious.
Taking advice from the ghost of Ignacious and gleaning information from the holocron, Kasius quickly learned the basics of force pyrokenesis. Taking the lightsaber along with the mask and holocron, Kasius returned to his master with his findings. Darth Kerosin had felt the dark side presence as well, and was impressed that Kasius had not been killed, or at the very least driven mad, by what he found. Of course, Kasius did not tell his master of the presence of a force ghost in the mask.
These findings led Darth Kerosin to grant the rank of Sith Lord to Kasius, giving him the new title of Lord Felflame, as respect for his new abilities.
Not long after this promotion, skirmishes between the Sith Empire and the Republic were intesifying. This would provide Lord Felflame with a testing ground for his new abilities, as he was not experienced yet in open combat, either with Force powers or with a lightsaber. Now would be as good a time as any to cut his teeth.
TL:DR version – Born on Drommund Kaas, sent to Korriban for training, apprentice to Darth Kerosin during Cold War, found mask and saber in tomb of Darth Ignacious, learned Force Pyrokenisis from holocron, mask still haunted by prior owner, used knowledge in holocron plus advice from force ghost, earned title of Lord Felflame, war re-ignites with Republic and is sent to battle with new talents untested.
