Hello hello! Just recieved in the mail the first saber I ordered, long after the mystery box sabers and my girlfriend's Crystal Ares, is my Heretic in weathered finish. I ordered warrior tier with in-hilt recharge, a decision I was unsure of until I got it. Now that it's in my hands I'm happy I did, as I can charge batteries externally or internally, very convenient.

I was also curious about how the acid weathering would turn out, especially considering I am not at all a fan generally with the SF 'lathe' weathering. In it comes in the mail and I am beyond pleased. While weathering generally means battle damage and dirt, this acid weathering looks very much as though I had pulled it from the dust and ash of malachor, where it had sat for over a thousand years. The site pictures had me worried that the black anodising would be gone altogether leaving a monochromatic mess, but thankfully the black accents remain as black as ever, and the silver has a grey/white patina. The only questionable parts of the finish are the inside of the emitter and the pommel, and the fact that there is a waxy residue on the andodised parts. Inside the emitter looks almost as though the black finish was burnt off, which could be argued adds to the aged effect.

The only aspect with which I am unhappy is the reptile wrap. I have an oracle with a black leather wrap with which I am happy, but this reptile wrap looks like new plastic, and contrasts poorly with the aged finish of the rest of the saber.

7/10 I would get this again.

Not sure if it's just me but I don't see any pictures! Can't wait to see this as I know I want a Heretic, just not sure on finish yet.

He just posted the wrong pic. The pic he posted is the one of the albino polar bear in a snow storm 3 inches from the sun. :P

Oops, there we go.

For contrast here's my oracle with standard black leather

I wonder at the durability patina because inside the pommel where the c-clip was inserted there are little scratches, but I'm not sure how bad scratches will stand out on a finish like this one.

here's with the blade in

Hmmmmm   That looks completely different than the store image for Acid Weathering. Did you request them to do it an alternate way than the store? I think my preference swings towards the stores version unfortunately.

I AM glad however to see that it can be done while still keeping the black anodized portion!

I like it! I like it a lot! :woohoo:

Granted, the reptile wrap has a sheen to it that belies the weathered, pitted appearance of the rest of the saber. I think that is the nature of the reptile wrap vs. the leather. I have a reptile wrapped Reliant, and it has the same sheen.

Why do they stick with that pommel?
It looks like something out of minecraft..

Because different folks have different tastes.... It's taken from TFU design art, and it's a break from the standard cylindrical sinkpipe

Overall, I like the way it came out. It doesn't really look, ancient, but it does look, derelict.
With that in mind, I think the wrap looks fine. Look at it as a recovered saber given a new life. No matter how long it was left in that state, the wrap would have deteriorated. Whom ever found it, repaired it, re-wrapped it for practical purposes, and moved on with their life with their new saber.
