I haven't been able to find any confirmation on searching, or even digging through the FAQ section, so if I've somehow missed the topic, please feel free to let me know.

I'd e-mailed previously asking about the gift certificates that can be bought at the main site, as I was curious about the way they were listed.

as with my first though was "Why are there's two prices?" It's very confusing, but the explanation I got was that the initial Gift Certificate was only $50. With each additional step, it was another +$50 and so on.

As disheartening as it was, getting a $150 gift certificate didn't mean it'd be good for $250... it just meant that it was $50 + $100, but the listing of $150 Certificate + $100 can seriously be misunderstood.

Secondly, I haven't seen much as far as instructions on how to use the Gift Certificates. The only thing I'd gotten on how to use them was to reference them somehow on the order being made.

I added the information about the Gift Certificate (from the order that I'd purchased it) in case they needed to verify it. (I had also heard that I should take a picture of it and e-mail it, wasn't sure why since I literally told them when I'd bought it.)

The order was also made when a promotion was going on to get a gift certificate back with the order, but I'm going to wait on using that one for when I buy the electronics for my ASP.

I haven't heard anything back since the e-mail order confirmation

Your order number:
0ca1025347 Your order password:
p_20a20

view your order online

Your order Total: $390.00

Your order status is: Confirmed
Your comment:

*** 50for250 ***

I would like to apply my $150 gift certificate from order 66d1022474 to this purchase, though.

And that my credit card was pulled for the entire $390.

So, how do the Gift Certificates Work, exactly... can we please get this into the FAQ either in the Forums or on the FAQ page of the website?

I'm curious as well. I've also made a purchase and tried to redeem a gift certificate. I was charged full as well.

I'm also interested in how this turns out. Have a $100 GC coming with my order and it just hit me I have no idea how it's used.

To redeem gift certificates you contact customer service, tell them what order # you want to apply it to, and give them the gift certificate #/picture of your gift certificate. Within a day or two they refund your credit card the value of the gift certificate.

I agree this info needs to be added to the FAQ, I was surprised to find it wasn't.

Edit: Just added it into the FAQ.

I've never gotten the refund. Like to showed, I put it in the notes on the order, both the order on which I bought it, and the note that I wanted it applied.

Considering the hassle of it temporarily getting lost in the mail and ending up on Boston for some reason instead of Texas, I'd like to think they know that I did finally get it a week after the post office figured things out.

Email SF customer service after you've placed your order, don't put it in your order notes. The several times I've used SF gift certificates I've emailed them after I've placed my order and I've gotten the refund.

There really needs to be a better way.

E-mailed, and added a picture of it, just in case, though.

It is a discomforting system and I'm not a fan but it's what we have to work with. I suspect the problem is that the SF website needs an update/upgrade, it's showing it's age and limitations.

How long does it usually take to get a response about the gift certificate in your experience?

^^This.... My mom and sister gave me a gift certificate last Christmas. I made an order on the etsy store and emailed SF customer service with the order number and a pic of the gift certificate. It was either 3 or 4 days later when I received an email reply and the money was credited back to my debit card.

Yeah, that's my guess too. I'm betting the site/ordering system isn't integrated with whatever billing/payment system they use.

I still haven't heard back from anyone on the gift certificate yet.
