Hi All,

So I picked up another Monarch. I love this saber. The Crystal from the front looks like this:

(Excuse the 80's bed spread, ha). I like how fat it looks.

However, from the side it looks like this:

It has sort of a branch / off-shoot / pimple that shoots out past the emitter shroud. I really don't want to be a hassle to customer service but part of me wants to ask them to replace the crystal. You can touch it by grabbing the shroud.

The question is not whether it bothers me or not (It does), but whether I am being too picky here and need to just accept it.

What would you do?

Thanks for your honest opinions! :-)

Yes, it would bother me.
The wounded Jedi looks up at the massive man wielding a 6' long light saber! The last words the Jedi hears is "Yes, I am Sith, and oh, so much more"

a cracked or unsymmetrical crystal looks cool. That thing is a different story tho.

Is it glued in place, or can you just twist it around so that the protrusion is facing into the saber?

Nice pickup with a second Monarch. The Crystal looks to be what started as the Gladiator/Jade type that then started festering with instability and increased its mass.
What would you do?
Pop that Zit!

I think that would bother me initially. But then thinking about crystals, it could be any shape that the Jedi selects (as seen the The Clone Wars episode). So it's definitely more natural looking. Crystals should definitely NOT be near/perfectly symmetrical as that would look rather fake.

It is not glued in, but it's in there tight enough that it won't turn and it definitely won't go far with that knot. I also made a slight attempt at loosening the LED set screw and turning the entire chamber, but the channels for the wires are not open on the opposite side so you loose some of the effect, plus I don't really want to start twisting wires.

I really just wanted to make sure I wasn't being too picky here, but it sounds like most everyone agrees. I've sent customer service an e-mail, so I'll see what they say.

I agree with you Burns3558 and Excecute66 that an asymmetrical crystal can look very nice. This just seemed like a bit much. It's kind of funny in a way, but the fact that I can grip the emitter and feel it worries me (either knocking the crystal loose, breaking the LED loose, or just plain stabbing myself).

Thank you for the input gang!

Just an update, Saberforge's customer service has been very kind once again and allowed me to swap out the crystal. I've asked for another wide crystal, but there's no guarantee, but we'll see what they send back.

Just as a last amendment, I got my Monarch back and no more protruding crystal pimple. Woohoo!

:woohoo: You had that zit popped! Well done and thanks for sharing the update. Whilst the 'extra growth' did make it unique before, now that it has been lessened, it's good to see that the crystal still has a unique character surrounding it with shape and appearance. Don't suppose you'd be wanting to share an updated pic of it lit up would you, to see what that beauty looks like coloured?

Sure, how thoughtless of me...here ya go!

Thanks, SuUpberSith and Zeddicuus, it was one of those things where nothing was inherently wrong with the saber, but man did that drive me crazy. I'm glad they were willing to replace it. And as OvrcAHst noted, it's still unique. The last crystal was just more "unique" than I wanted it to be. I'm sure who ever put it in thought, "this'll be cool".

Maybe, just maybe that first crystal would have worked it you built a blade exhaust (ala Ren) off the side of the saber, then attached a short blade.

But why stop there!

You could also weld on a battle axe blade to the other side, and get a spear extension with a chain saw on the bottom of the saber. Then, remove the battery and replace it with pull start 3.5cc RC car engine.

Now that would be unique! :P

 I definitely think this is what the tech who picked it out hand in mind. I just am not handy enough to build that (yet).
