TOPIC: Thomas Snyder's "Unicorn"

Thomas posted this to highlight some the new things he could do with the new 3-D rendering application he uses. I believe we have seen this fantasy saber before, but he has made a few improvements.

I don't usually go for curved hilts, but that's pretty awesome.

Is that the new render of the Bane 2.0 then?

No, it's just something Thomas really likes. He has produced a few iterations of this render in the past, and every new one looks a little better than the last. People have asked if it will ever become a reality, and he says maybe a 2% chance, but more likely, never. Mainly because it would be very difficult to mass produce, and keep the cost reasonable. So "unicorn" translates to "fantasy" in this case.

Pretty cool. Honestly this kinda reminds me of the original White Power Rangers sword due to the color scheme and curved nature (obviously it doesn't have a talking head on it lol)

Damnit now you're making me want a Green Ranger dragon flute themed saber to go next to my Green Ranger helmet.

So Power Rangers was a copy of a Japanese show called Super Sentai (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Sentai) that's been running since 1975! The show always has a number of colored rangers with costumes, weapons, giant mechs, and story/villians that change every single season. In the mid 90s they decided to do an American Version where they took the fight scenes, monsters, and other gear from the Japanese show and spliced in American actors and dialog to fill out the story. This was done during the Zyurangers season of Super Sentai (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ky%C5%8Dry%C5%AB_Sentai_Zyuranger).

The popularity of the show caught everyone by surprise so rather than follow super sentai and their new costumes and gear they started doing more of their own filming with the old Zyuranger costumes. Eventually in Zyuranger's the green ranger died, in the American version they just had him lose his powers (this was ultimately how they explained away his sometimes there often times notness in the footage that had a different explaination in the Japanese version). Well the green ranger was the most popular both due to the actor and some of his differences so they decided to recast that character as the white ranger and used the suit from the season after Zyurangers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gosei_Sentai_Dairanger) and replaced all the mechs at the same time even though the animal theme didn't match up to be able to use some of the stock footage.

They did one more mech only swap before in the 4th season (Zeo) they did full out costume swaps every year to match Super Sentai . They however still differed from the Japanese version by keeping a consistent plot from season to season for a number more (into the 6th or 7th I believe) before they dropped that as well and were a fully different show every year the way they are now. To give you and idea here are the different versions of the American show:

I don't know all the different colors that happened during all those but I'm sure there were probably some more you didn't have covered , but for Mighty Morphin' which is what most people consider the cannon in America you're only missing White and that's arguable.

Phew! Thank the Force for that. And don't worry I know about the two missing Ranger's after the World Peace Conference etc and the Green Ranger's powers being drained by the power spell and a candle (at least I think and the Pink Ranger helped save him).
I just concentrated on the Mighty Morphin' series from "Day of the Dumpster" onward!

I always got a kick out of the fact that the original series was unintentionally and hilariously racist, e.g. Asian yellow ranger, African American black ranger, ditsy girl pink ranger.

I noticed they changed it for the new movie.
