I tried to do some searching but came up empty. Has anyone tried etching their blade? If so, how did it turn out?

Thanks!

Is etching a bit like carving?

If so, the answer is pretty obvious I think. It will weaken the blade and thus make it more prone to breaking.

If not, ignore my answer :)

If you're looking at etching a design or engraving into the body of the hilt, there are quite a few tutorials out there, and several people in the custom saber community (Ethan Chesser, Shameem, KR sabers over in the UK) do really nice stuff with that.

If you're looking to put a design into the actual polycarb blade, I'd suggest taking the reflective film out, drawing or altering that, and then rolling it back up and sliding it back into the blade so it'll still be duel worthy.

Is the film easily removed? I thought they textured the inside of the blade as apposed to sliding in a diffuser.

If it's a thin-neck blade it'll slide right out. For a 1" blade, there's a ring of glue at the bottom to hold the film in place, but if you either cut the blade there or otherwise remove the plug (heating the end with a hair dryer should soften it), I believe you can take the film out without a problem.

I may be making this up, but I believe that if you intentionally remove that film it will void the warranty. I could be wrong though. Maybe Knytiri can shed some light.

Wow is that real. If so that's freaking amazing. And I want one.

I think if you're planning on taking an etching tool or dremel to your blade anyway, you are not so concerned with the warranty!
