TOPIC: Game of Thrones lightsaber fights.

So I just discovered these clips from various fights in the tv series Game of Thrones. They have simply added a lightsaber blade onto the swords and then added some sound effects.

I Think these are cool because they show a more realistic view of how lightsaber fights could be, meaning leaning more towards Episode 5 and 6 rather than Episode 1-3.

Slight warning that these clips do have spoilers for the Show (and books?) so don't watch them if you dont want to have the story spoiled.

Anyways what do you Think, will we get "realistic" lightsaberfights in Episode 7 or will it be more towards the prequels?

Those are pretty sweet... from a few videos and such I've watched on Youtube from people discussing 7 and whats been released so far detail wise on it, they're actually going back to a more basic Star Wars approach, meaning more original trilogy. Also, from what I understand, lightsabers themselves won't even have that high of a role in the movie, and only towards the end does Luke even get his out... So! Iunno how much of that is true, of course... but I would like to see the movies move back to the original trilogy in terms of quality. The prequels were flashy to look at but lacked in... well. Pretty much everything else, in my opinion.

Am I the only one here who preferred the prequel trilogy duels?

I kid, there are aspects of the prequel duels that I like, I just prefer the OT ones greatly for various reasons. The main critiques I hold with the prequel vs OT fights are that they don't exist to tell a story, and that they break tension by bringing the fights so over the top. There has never been a fight that shows as much character and story as Luke vs Vader in ESB, from the techniques used to the setting and beyond.

I liked both the prequel and original duels. I liked the prequels a bit more, but both the OT and the Prequels had things I didn't like in the duels. Like this bit: That's just silly

But regardless of the silly bits, I love all the saber duels. And I look forward to seeing Kylo Ren's saber in a duel!

I agree. Everytime a saber comes to life in the prequels it fucking awesome! Also shows the power of the jedi! Nick Gillard is the man! Wish I could spend a couple of days and train with him! Instead I will just practice with my 3 year old!

I didn't say I don't like the prequel duels.. I said they were flashy to look at, meaning the movies themselves. lol... That is, the duels and the choreography in the prequels was amazing, there's no denying that. But the intense emotion of Luke vs Vader in RotJ hasn't been matched yet... at least for me. While the fights were slower, the movies, quality wise, in the original trilogy were far superior.

That being said, my favorite duel to just sit and watch is probably Obi vs Maul after Maul killed Qui-Gon... short, but epic.

Yeah in terms of overall quality I much prefer the originals. The prequels had some good points to them like the dueling and some of the story aspects (not much though), but for the most part they're just not as good. As awesome as the fight between Obi-Wan and Anakin is... There are some things I just think are very ridiculous. They're fighting on platforms that need forcefields in order to keep functioning, because the lava and the heat damage them. As soon as those shields come off, the platforms start falling apart. And yet Anakin and Obi-Wan barely get singed? I guess the force explains that? Idk.

I agree that the final duel between Luke and Vader is very intense, emotionally.

Even if it looks silly, it still takes a lot of skill. Flourishing is hard! They make it look effortless, I don't think I could even pull it off at all. And besides, that's just like, my opinion, man.

I think most of the prequel fights were more entertaining to watch. And there were more of them! The Kenobi Vader fight from A New Hope was pretty weak. But some of them were a bit too flashy. As already mentioned that one moment between Obi-wan and Anakin is absolutely ridiculous. Yes it's cool to be able to spin it around like that, but in a fight nobody would waste energy and time doing that and leaving yourself open. Everything else is quite enjoyable but I cringe every time I see that bit. Also The Clone Wars had some great duels, Obi-wan and Ventress against Maul and Opress! That is one for the ages.

Oh man, I forgot about Clone Wars. They had some great duels in that show! Palpatine vs Maul and Savage was one of my favorites.
