TOPIC: Rebels Season 1 & 2 (Potential Spoilers)

I have been watching this series since the pilot, and but for a few filler episodes that were a little silly (but still watchable), I have enjoyed it all very much!

There has been some great Star Wars story telling, the characters all have their parts to play (even if they don't get to do it every episode), there has been some terrific character development for all of them, and most of all...this series is not afraid to go a bit dark if the story calls for it. That last one is kind of surprising, considering the network the series plays on.

The first time I saw an example of it was the episode where Kanan went to the Imperial prison planet, having been led to believe there was a Jedi being held there that survived Order 66. Of course, upon arrival there, he discovers that there HAD been indeed been a Jedi imprisoned at that location, but she had been executed years ago, and her body was kept around as a beacon in the force to draw other Jedi into this trap. We are actually shown a holo recording of her being led to the chamber which would be the device of her death, enter it, and die! We also see her remains through a small window. That is some serious dark there for what is supposed to be a kids show!

Of course, the most recent example was the season 2 finale where three Inquisitors were killed. 2 via light saber, and 1 from a very long fall when his "saber-copter" failed because it was damaged in a fight with Darth Maul. Also, Kanan being blinded by Maul was a little dark, as well as a total game changer for his character! Oh, let's not forget the poor bumbling Imperial Governor that the first Inquisitor killed just for being incompetent. Sure, we see Vader do that all the time in the movies, but again...this is supposedly a kids show.

All of that, combined with Ezra's journey from street rat, to Jedi (while being tempted by the Dark Side), and the slow birth of the Rebellion (which we will see come to full fruition in Rogue One), and I am definitely into this show for how ever long it lasts!

Twilight of The Apprentice was dark the second it started it wasn't afraid to show the darker side of the Jedi and even darker side,of the sith and pulled no punches

This show got me interested enough to go back and watch the clone wars series. I had to get the background on Ahsoka and Anakin. Rebels is a great series. Do we think that Kanan could be Rahm Kota? I say that knowing next to nothing about the character.

Only similarity between the two is that they're blind. Also Kota is non-canon now.

Don't forget the hair and distrust of clone troopers

I figured they may not be the same. I just recalled there was a blind Jedi. I did not know Rahm was not canon. Other than the original movies, and having watched Clone Wars and Rebels, I know very little about this universe. Thanks!

Right now that's pretty much all that's canon so you're actually doing pretty good!

Actually, it's not far off for the two characters to potentially be the same. Kanan could be a reimagining of Kota in the same way that Ezra seems to be shaping up to be a reimagining of Revan (which points a finger to my headcanon/theory that Revan will make an appearance in Rebels Season 3). Since Disney has bought Star Wars and was the culprit of turning the old canon into Legends, they'd be at the liberty to rewrite some characters' backgrounds and personality traits.

Otherwise, Kanan's blindness seems rather random to me as a plot device, and at this point the similarities between him and Rahm Kota (blindness, distrust of clones, hairstyle, a shaken and somewhat cynical faith in the Jedi and the Force, etc) are so obvious that I'd be surprised if Disney didn't act upon them.

And I for one, really enjoy seeing that old art. It's really refreshing.

Even Zeb's character design is one that was originally put forth for that of a Wookie! So, some of those brilliant McQuarrie imaginings that never saw screen time, are getting a second chance!
