I've been reading through the NBv3 manual and it doesn't seem to have a mute or "sound off" function while still being able to access blade effects. Or did I miss it somewhere?

Which other soundboards have this?

You can't toggle mute on and off in hilt on the NBv3, but on the SD card you can set the volume parameter to 0 to mute the sound.

I suppose you could create a soundfont with silent files.

But what I was after was muting as a selectable function of the board, similar to what we have in stock sf boards.

The SD card in the NBv3 has the function 'VOL' in its config.txt. Setting this to 0 should mute the audio (page 18 of the manual).

As it's been identified, short of volume parameter set at 0 or a 'Ghost Font' created into one of the soundbanks (& muffling the Pommel vent like smothering with a pillow), staying inline with PL boards, unless I interpret incorrectly:

Bleh, didn't read too well. What I said had been said. :P

I'm wondering if putting a small switch inline with the speaker leads would work. That way if you want sound you can flip it on, but otherwise the speaker wouldn't get power.

Can the NBv3 boot without a speaker connected, though?

can't see why not. a speaker isn't part of the electrical circuit.

the CoreFX board has blade effects without sound, btw.

i remember watching a video where the aux button is used to mute the saber. just can't remember which video or board it was.

Ah, that's probably something you can do. Since the NBv3 only requires a momentary switch, you can use a 12mm latching switch wired across either the positive or the negative lead of the speaker to use it as a mute. Latched, the speaker is connected and there's a path for the current. Unlatched, the speaker wire is opened and no current can flow. Assuming the board doesn't have any protection that crashes when it detects an open across the speaker contacts (very unlikely, but worth mentioning) that would work pretty handily.

The PRIZM has Mute-On-The-Go as well (I was reading its manual today).

Yes, the NBv3 can run without a speaker wired to it. I was running one of my ASP sabers without a speaker for a while, it was actually kinda nice to have no sound, oddly enough. If you want to have a saber with sound on a NBv3 and also have no sound as an option, you should have one font with normal settings and another font with the volume set to 0, as stated a few times earlier in this thread. You can also wire in a slide switch or a latching AV switch somewhere in or on the hilt that would connect to one of the speaker wires. Some people will install connectors to the speaker wires so they can remove the speaker if they so wish. Lots of options if that is what you want!

"Mute on the go" was what I was after. Looks like the pico crumble has that as well. Thanks for all the replies, guys.

Does the Champion PnP V2 kit on the ASP sit offer any mute function?

I can't find much information about its features. Thanks!

You can set the volume levels using the onboard configuration tool. I believe it has options for loud, quiet and silent audio.
