Hi Guys

So, I pretty much want to build my own saber. Ill be using SaberForge's ASP parts to make a Kanan Jarrus inspired hilt, but I need some help with the electronics.

So far, this is my parts list

LED - Blue/Blue/White Cree XP-E2 CopperNova - LINK
NBv3 - LINK
Recharge Port - LINK
AV Switch - LINK
Sound - 2W 28mm Bass Speaker - LINK
Chassis - Goth All in One chassis - LINK
Battery - Panasonic Li-Ion 18650 3.7V 3400mAh - LINK
26 AWG Wire

One of the few questions are:
  1. Are these parts suitable?
  2. What resistors are needed for entire setup so the NBv3 can operate properly without dimming the LED? I'm thinking of 0.5 Ohm, but what Wattage?
  3. Any thing else to consider or that I have forgotten?
  4. Will this work?

Mind you that I live in Australia and I know the battery can't be ordered, but that is the type of battery I will be using.

I'm pretty good with electronics and soldering etc, and I don't think I will have a problem with the wiring but these are some of the Q's from a Padawan learner.

Thanks

You should be good with all that, I would suggest the 1.11 goth chassis though.

You'll need to get a 1" ID heat sink too.

Don't forget to get a kill key too.

.5ohm 3w resistors will do you fine on the blues and the white (FYI they are pretty big). The XP-E2 LEDs over clock pretty well, so there is some debate around whether you actually need to use resistors on blue and white dice assuming you have them in a good heat sink and use a good TIM like a thermal paste.

Whats the difference with the 1.10 and 1.11 goth chassis, size difference? or just a new updated model, also could you reference the link? As I can only see 2 all in one chassis for the NBv3

That all in one won't work for you. You'd need to order two pieces, the NB/battery sled and the speaker holder and then attach them together.

Hmm. I would of thought it would fit. I will be using the Reliant body ASP so it will definitely fit in terms of length, but if the width is too small, then I'll take your advice on that.

I haven't order my asp parts yet, I was just fishing around to see what suits best

Thanks for helping ;)

I have yet to use a premade chassis in a saber that I've installed. Usually I use the battery sled as the chassis and leave the speaker free floating, especially in a NB install where I position the board so its accessible easily behind the speaker and you don't have to yank the guts out to get to it.

Maybe a chassis would make things easier to cram, but I haven't had to use one yet.

and BTW, I've noticed that NBv3 can get finicky about your LEDS if you don't add the right resistors...

Not trying to hijack this thread, but the topic is applicable to me too. I have a Quad Cree LED 2xGreen 2xAmber from SF, and the 3400mah battery. Electrical physics is not my strongest, but I want to learn more. Any idea what kind of resistor I would need for that set of LEDs? It sounds like some need the resistance, while others are good to run straight off of the battery.

The greens do not need a resistor.

The Amber ones MIGHT:

If they are regular amber ones, then they will need a 1ohm 2watt resistors assuming you are running them off a board that puts out 3.7 volts
If they are PC-Amber, you don't technically need to as long as you have them in a good heat sink. They are Blue LEDs with a phosphorus coating (hence the PC part). If you want to put a resistor on those a .2 - .5 ohm at 2-5 watts would work.

NOTE that's for each dice - two two of each resistor

Got it. Thanks much for the help! To my knowledge, they are just regular amber, so I'll go with that.

Going back, now I'm not sure about my amber dyes. Elsewhere on the forums, it seems like the 12w LED that Saberforge sells is a PC-amber. Is there a way to tell by looking at the LED before wiring it up? Just want to make sure I don't blow it out before getting a chance to even have it running fully.

Well, the site says they're Cree XQ-Es, which only has PC Amber in the line according to the Cree website.

I saw that too. Just want to be sure! Thanks KelbornX and Jas-OT for both of your help.
