Well after a long absence, I've returned. And with a new project! I got a Thai Sabercraft hilt not too long ago and have been altering it to my liking, and to make it more accurate. Im going for a post Force Unleashed saber. I'm sure after being shot into space, it's gone on many adventures, much like lukes after cloud city. This is what I started off with: a very solid, very well made base.

It's a good start, but has too much black to be accurate, so I started sanding and also started some light weathering ( will be touched up and greatly improved).

Still much to do as far as the hilt goes, but it's a start. After the hilt is finished, I will be installing a custom reveal chassis with a CF8 soundboard, RGB LEDs, and a heavy bass speaker.

Weathering on the hilt is finished! Next project will be the crystal chamber. Gotta make it look mildly worn, and of course give it a crystal. Here's more pictures:

Any thoughts on cutting a piece of brass sinktube and popping it under the grips before the pommel to mimic the brass/copper body section sometimes seen in the artwork?

Actually already working on that. Just have to find tubing with the right ID.

I imagine 22 gauge 1.5" sinktube should be pretty close - you could cut a seam in it to stretch or shrink the diameter a bit and hide the seam underneath one of the grips.

Thanks guys! And that's a good idea cutting the sink tubing. Don't know why cutting it didn't cross my mind.

Someone pointed out that rounding the bunny ears out a little would add to the look, and they were right. It's a minor adjustment, but helps quite a bit.

Added the copper accent near the pommel, as well as a little black on the pommel's taper.

Going to replace the marble with an opalite sphere, as well as put some type of backing on the chamber so the switch wiring won't show, but here's the crystal chamber so far!

Veered away a bit from the original design and gave it a Tattooine spin. Last pics until I install the electronics.

is the marble/crystal easily removable? i think there was a guy on the custom sabers fb page that was selling a crystal with a stormtrooper helmet inside it.

the saber's looking really nice!

Thanks! The chamber is adjustable, so if the crystal or marble is damaged or just needs replaced, it's super easy to get it out and put the new one in. The upper part of the chamber has male/ female threadings, so a few twist and loosens or snugs back down.

Thanks!it was actually a bit of a happy accident. I wrapped it, then realized I had nowhere to set the black grips or screws, so I stuck them on to keep myself from losing pieces. Then I realized it was actually kind of cool and left it.
