Hey I'm soon planning on machining my own custom hilt with my robotics team and am wondering if anyone has any suggestions or tips of how to go about it? For example could it be done with a dremmel? And if so what took would be best? Would it depend upon the design?

Almost all the custom etching I've seen has been done either by acid or saltwater bath. I haven't tried it, though, so I can't really say what's the best/most accurate. But I have seen quite a lot of impressively intricate designs done using those methods. There are a lot of youtube tutorials that break it down really well.

KR sabers in England has a fantastic easy to follow step by step tutorial about chemical etching on YT. You should definitely check it out.

Ok thanks guys. If you find anything in your travels about it just keep me in mind. I actually had meant engraving too but forgot to say it. That's where the dremmel came in lol sorry

Saltwater etching worked out pretty well for me, doesn't really need specialist equipment either.

I just noticed that those chevron-sequel markings were etched, too, Takamatsu. They looked so clean I thought it was part of the original design.

Where would I be able to find the materials such as the base for etching? And what concentration of salt should I use? Btw those designs look absolutely amazing Takamatsu. Thank you for sharing that with us.

Here's a detailed tutorial I found from TCSS, including a materials list.

Yup, that's pretty much the tutorial I followed, only I used a "hacked" Xbox 360 power supply to provide the voltage/current.

Thanks guys. And lol yeah I was wondering how to do the power supply. Now with the 360 hack it should be way easier. Thanks Takamatsu. As I've said on other threads once I have a completed product I'll post some pictures just so u guys can see what u helped me accomplish. Really means a lot and is really nice to have such a nice community to go to if I ever have questions. Btw I had a question about the forums. I've heard of private chats and I was wondering how I would do one if I wanted to?

You should be able to click on a members profile picture and then underneath their avatar image is a few lines of details, time of register, last logged on etc etc and underneath that there is a "Send a message" with a little speech bubble. Click on that to send a private message.
