How exactly do I get a customized saber? Do I place a store order first and send the customization guys a mail afterwards or do I mail the customization guys from the get-go and work out the details and price and payment then?

I'm pretty sure you email Customs, they'll work with you to figure out what you want exactly, then they'll discuss pricing and give you a quote or something along those lines. I don't think ordering from one of the sites is necessary.
