So, I've been sitting on this saber for the better part of three months, but for several reasons I finally gave in to temptation and presented it to my wife as her early Sithmas present.
This saber is celebrating a lot of things. We just bought our first house together. I locked down the design with Justin on our third wedding anniversary. We're both conquering some pretty serious health issues and making things go in the right direction.
I wanted something very special that I could give her the night we went to Force Awakens...well, I almost made it, but we had some friends visiting who had helped me when I was brainstorming ideas, and they deserved the chance to see her take up her saber for the first time, so I decided that I was done waiting.
The black body combined with the silver and purple powdercoat is just amazing. I originally had asked about a purple wrap, but Justin felt it made the saber too busy - and after seeing how gorgeous that sleek black leather made it, I am very glad he talked me out of it.
This was my first 12W+ saber, and man, that is BRIGHT. The indigo is a great color to show off the intensity - especially with how the blue and red dies blend once you have a blade in it.
As you can see, she hated it.
I put a TCSS thumbscrew in for display purposes and making it easier to swap the blade plug in and out, but when she starts doing proper saber training we'll use the proper set screw just to be safe. It worked just fine for going out to the front yard and swinging it around in the dark, though.
The only other slight customization I forgot to get a picture of is the blade plug - it's the "basic" apprentice plug, but Justin replaced the usual weathered stud in the center with a glossy black one to match the hilt body.
This was my first custom build. It won't be my last. I had an amazing experience, and Justin turned my ideas into reality incredibly quickly. I can't say thank you enough!
