Almost missed this in the discussion of the new Apprentice models on the FB thread. Pretty cool!
We just made some chassis, got the first ten prototypes in should have them rolled out by next month, they fit high bass 28mm speakers

And there was some additional verbiage posted too.
Some pictures of the chassis we have been working on, these are shown in injection molded grey polycarbonate but the production run will be black polycarbonate. They take an 18650, a high bass 28mm speaker, and have square pegs to fit all of our boards. There is a notch up top for wires, and a notch down below for a micro usb ribbon.

Imagine what you will know tomorrow....

Hold the phone. They're actually giving us what we want? Bravo SF!

This gives me hope that they'll look at SC3.0 and work out the ghost swings. Those are really the only 2 elements that had me looking at third parties for internals.

If SF keeps this up they may just start to engender some actual brand loyalty from yours truly.

Are there any whispers about using alternative LED modules?

That's excellent news. I've been looking at chassis on Shapeways, but I'd prefer to just order them from SF, since they'll obviously fit SF hilts.

I knew this was coming months ago when Phil posted in the group that he was looking for a 3D printer. This should definitely help them step up their game a bit. The fact that it "has notches to take all the boards we use" (from Phil's other reply in that thread) is a great plus, since it will by default then fit all NEC boards since they're all the same size. There's a few SF hilts I'd love to stick an Igniter 3 into....

You mean like Luxeon, or a different type of Cree? Either way, I have not heard anything in that regard, but if I do, you know I let you guys know as soon as I am cleared to do so.

Will these chassis be replacing the battery sled on the site? They look like they can serve the same function, and I imagine it'd simplify company logistics a little.

Our side by side lumen meter testing of tri cree 3up vs quad cree 4up showed the quad was brighter. Tri Crees are cheaper and easier to source with no assembly required, if they were brighter we would be using them. Its looking like the next step will be string style blades using seven hundred 3014 smd LEDs. Were working on that project now, should have news by the summer.

That’s a lot of LEDs
But having a string blade would be cool for display also

Thanks for the feedback phil! However, as pointed out to me here while the quad-cree does put out more light and is brighter, the layout of the LED dice on the PCB precludes the use of an optic that would focus the beam as efficiently as tri-crees(which have a dedicated optic for every die). This in the practice of sabers with blades leads to a blade that is not measurably brighter (except for right at the base) with significant base-flare, in exchange for greater power use.

In otherwords, it's not the size of the LED but how you direct the light ;)

This is, of course, all through secondary research, since i lack the means to conduct my primary research. If your experience/personal testing with infinity v4 blades says otherwise please let me know! Always trying to learn

Academics aside, I did want to thank you for buulding up SF. No one is perfect but you guys remain my personal favorites

Chassis would be nice for keeping everything sitting nice in there, but will the battery be as much a pain to remove as it is now? right now, in the sleds they have, it is a pain to try and get the battery out.

Our tests were installed in hilts with identical blades and measurements taken every 6in of the blade. They were as scientific as we could make them, the quad cree was brighter.

We didn't cut corners, the lumen meter alone was 500 bucks, and we spent several days doing it, we don't pick components randomly, we test them thoroughly.

Could you make that data publically available? I believe your claim, but as an optical technician, I'd just like to see the numbers and appreciate the methodology, and it sounds like it might put a longstanding argument to rest conclusively.

Have a question. Will these new chassis be used in the pnp kits ?

Quote from 'da Man!
Here is the planned timeline for new chassis. First we are going to do a special chassis for double reveals. Next we will be looking at possibly standardizing the radius of our curved sabers to do a chassis for them. Then we will work on a long one inch chassis for the guardian and any future thin core sabers
