Hello all,

I've got my ASP saber today, which is great ! :)

However, 6 months ago I've got a Fury pre-assembled saber and got used to the kill-key and ability to recharge saber without disassembling the saber.

Has someone ever done that? I'm wondering if someone has schematics on how to do it?

Would appreciate any help.

Does it have sound?

Yes, there is sound.

That makes it tricky. Even a stunt saber (LED only) has four wires that need to connect to a recharge port in order for it to function properly. Those connections aren't quick connect compatible (not enough space) and, frankly, you wouldn't want them to be because all those connections would be super delicate. Add in all the additional wiring of a soundcard and you're asking for trouble. There may be a way around all this but I don't have the expertise to know it.

Anyone else have thoughts on the subject?

ASP Recharge Ports are on my to-do list of SF tinkering. If you can post pictures of your ASP electronics with closeups of the quick connects, I think I can return the favor with diagrams to construct an ASP recharge port that would plug between the battery and soundboard.

Actually, a shot of the battery connector ought to be enough (assuming the battery still has a QC between it and the soundboard). Then the same recharge port would work between Warrior and Champion tier ASP setups.

EDIT: Recharge port might have four wires, but it's just two plugs. One that hooks into the battery, and the other that would hook into wherever the battery normally would. It's basically an extension cable with a port in the middle. Durability shouldn't be an issue, either. The Micro connectors are fairly secure, and proper heatshrink acts as a stress relief to prevent breaking the solder joints.

With my less than minimal knowledge and practice with electronics I really don't know if the follow will help. After watching them though, the application(s) seems to have merit and whilst there isn't an actual schematics diagram referenced, should at least provide some insight (or I am completely wrong).

Shouldn't it be something similar to HotRod's Spark 2 install? Don't know the differences between the Sabercore soundboards and the Spark 2 but they shouldn't be that different for that setup...

Yeah, if it's just soldering a charge port into the circuit, there're already a bunch of guides and schematics available.

Making an ASP-compatible charge port, however, is a bit more complicated, since the pins on those micro dean plugs don't have pre-defined polarity. On some plugs, the male pin is positive. On others, it's negative. Without knowing which way SF wires the batteries, it's a 50/50 chance of getting it right or frying your soundboard.

EDIT: Just received pictures of an ASP Champion setup. Battery wires are soldered directly to the board, so you're not going to hook a recharge port in there without soldering.

I'm also starting to second-guess how well a pre-wired charge port would work with a Warrior setup. If the Warrior ASP battery holder already has two plugs for the latching switch and LED wired in, that switch is going to get in the way of a plug-and-play recharge port.

My understanding was that with ASP the recharge port was not something that could be easily done and still keep it modular.
It would require the port to be pre wired to the battery and sound board which would make installation by the end user troublesome and prone to breaking.

Not impossible just not easy to figure out or ensure safety and quality on. It would also take a bit more understanding on how to put it all together and there seems to be enough issue with that as is.

While the ASP section is great to create your own saber and for those with the ability to build it yourself, I really hope that they consider adding the option to create an ASP saber and then have it assembled by SF, and to be able to include some of the features that are typically associated with Hero or Champion tier sabers such as the recharge port or advanced soundboards for those individuals who might want them. Yes, this is what the pre-designed sabers are for (the all-inclusive options), but it can easily be foreseen that the growth and popularity of ASP in that "custom" design without the actual custom cost would only push this type of feature request into making ASP sabers the premier hobbyist sabers on the market.

I imagine it may be something you can go through their custom shop for.
I asked Justin months ago prior to him leaving SF if I could get ASP sabers built through him for the purpose of having all soldered connections with recharge port and led av switch and he said that yes, it would be possible.
Not entirely sure how things have changed since his departure though.

My thoughts too. Some options with prices the customer opt to pay,
(1) Assemble
(2) Assemble with recharge port
(3) Assemble with illuminated switch
(4) Assemble with recharge port and illuminated switch

(4) comes standard with the Champion tier for example, so I don't see why the ASP can not be extended to accommodate. :)

Drat. I take it the ASP sabers which include "charger" have some sort of cheap external charger instead of a built-in port?

*looks at pile of extra li-ion chargers laying around*

I guess I can add a charge port myself, but I was under the impression that a champion ASP had the same features as a champion from the SF store. Was hoping that maybe I wouldn't need to mess with it. But at least this gives me an excuse to use a slower charger... like maybe 1A instead of 3A.
This is not the post you're looking for.
