I can't say I've ever seen someone do it with paint before (on a saber hilt) so that'd definitely be cool to see.

I think a lot of it depends on how you thin the paint and remove the heavy elements before any paint dries. I've never done it on metals but I assume you can get that nice gritty used look without discoloring. This way the saber should look like it's seen some use but still taken care of and polished.

At least I think :D

Hi all,

Go to YouTube and look up The Custom Saber Shop videos by Madcow, there is a collection of videos including weathering your saber and how to remove minor scuffs and scratches.

You should find the info you are looking for.

I'm also planning to do the weathering myself. Going to order all the parts black anodized, and use abrasives to wear the finish the way I want it. Here's another image of my future saber. I think I settled on a name. Can't wait.

^^^ Watching some videos on it now :D

Man there's a lot of good stuff.

Also, PULLED THE TRIGGER. Pre-ordered via Inidegogo! Can only afford the saber and light setup at the moment. Will have to get a proper sound board eventually but that's all good. Can always add one!

Sticking with this for the final design - very simple, vintage and utilitarian. Maaaaaybe a different pommel, will decide before i have to send info in:

Also - CYAN. Reminds me most of Luke's ANH saber vs a more prominent blue... or would this be more Arctic?

I'd say the cyan is closer :)

Personally, I love that particular pommel. It is one of the few that does not immediately remind me of a sink knob. Congrats on pulling the trigger!

I'm really digging that saber design, Agdev. Simple, but elegant and practical.
Still debating whether or not I want to make a custom saber (the Katana and Anistar hilts may do it for me for practicing my dual wielding, or maybe two Katanas when I save money? IDK) and get it next spring, or just buy one of the above sabers in February after purchases have slowed down and (hopefully) SF has switched to FedEx.

I've heard people say the Arctic is more accurate for ANH. The cyan is 2 blue and 2 green dies, and thus has a slight greenish tint. Perhaps someone with firsthand experience can comment on this.
