The lady friend just got her Epoch the other day and she had the same initial reaction.
Personally I found that when I used 1 hand it was very much doable. For her it was a little bit too heavy for any significant 1 handed wielding however, so in order for her to use 2 hands gloves really did become a necessity. The upper section right above the activation switch is just too darn sharp. Honestly though, a pair of my old mountain biking gloves solved the issue right up. |

I have heard that sharpness comment in othr reviews. My understanding is that they are normally referring to the shroud over the lower part of the hilt just aover (above) the activation switch and where it is separated (groved) coming back to the switch. Several reviews mentioned using a fine grain sandpaper to round out these edges. Or have I misunderstood and the problem is in the cover /shroud on the emitter section.
A question for current version Epoch owners... which is this an accurate description of the problem and is there a workable solution? Are you current owners still happy with the hilt? Should a redesign of the Epoch keep the current horizontal windows or convert to the vertical pattern? If there is a safety issue then SF should resolve the problem but the current design does provide one of the more distinctive hilts in the market and I would like to see its strongest style elements carried forward into any saber that carries on its name. Else I am going to have to get one before the go away... |

Yip. I saw that when they originally posted the photos. Was wondering why they had it out. I mean, I'm not crazy about that hilt or anything, but I guess that could be the benefit of going to their show room. Maybe find some sabers that aren't on the online store.

What surprised me the most was the fact that they managed to get one. I assumed it was a one off saber. |

As it turns out, one saber was given to Drew Karpyshyn (who I assume kept it) and a few more (12) were made to be sold on fx-forums.com. It's entirely possible Phil acquired one from one of the 12 buyers.
