As Greyjedidude said, "... they aren't juat toy, they are works or art." Nobody would question paying 300 for a painting. Infact it would be considered quite grown up and sofisticated... And you can't swing a painting around at your friends... Well you can, but you probably shouldn't.

When I took one of my sabers out today, everyone wanted to see it or touch it. I consider this a hobby, everyone has something that keeps them happy. For me, sabers make me happy :)

Man thats so hard to read. You really think guitars are "pointless" ? and this is in comparison to...a lightsaber. Granted, not a "toy" but, not a "real" lightsaber either lets just be honest here.

Wow.

I mean obviously here I am on this forum. I've bought in on many sabers and plan to buy more. So i'm not putting sabers down by any means. But calling a guitar pointless in comparison...damn.

Well i'm not a dick so i'm certainly not going to go into a rant here but I am pretty stunned at a comment like this. Just imagine what the world would be like without music. The importance of the guitar and every other musical instrument of any kind on our society, our entertainment, our expression, our freaking humanity itself cannot be overstated. To call that pointless compared with a lightsaber thats basically just a collectable that you can swing around is just completely mindblowing to me.

Well thats about all I have to say about that. Harsh bro, harsh.

To put in my two cents, I too get this sometimes. Two of my friends specifically get like this. They question why I'd want to spend $300+ on a 'plastic bladed no-doubt fragile not-even-real saber.'

In all honesty, I laugh them off, mostly because I find them to be what I call hobby hypocritical. One of them is always getting the newest Nintendo console, so they don't exactly treat what they've got with care (his 3DS xL had to be replaced with a New 3DS xL because of how shoddy he took care of the old 3DS, which was a limited edition Pokemon XY model, after just three years, wheras mine is literally in near perfect condition from the day I bought it, besides my loss of the stylus), which means thats about $250 bucks down the drain with each new one.

The other takes Smash Brothers way too seriously. And I'm ridiculed for wanting to buy some epic quality lightsabers.
"Tell me, Jedi, do you fear death?"

"Do you fear your own reflection?"

"No..."

"That's your answer."

a quick buz up side their head works as a "shhyutit" moment. That's what I do to my downer friends. most think it's real cool. But, I do get some that look at it wrong.

We are getting slightly off topic with the guitar statement. I will say this, if we question how many guitars someone owns, then we as saber owners should expect the same. What people collect for hobbies, and for fun, is their own business. If someone enjoys guitars and collects them and plays them, that is their choice. If the choice is to collect deluxe figurines such as Sideshow Collectibles, that is up to them. We as saber owners buy more than one because we simply enjoy variety.

I suggest we move on from the guitar statement, just my two cents. Thread could be closed if we continue to get off topic.

If you're managing your money right, no one should have the right to tell you how to spend it. Once taxes, bills, life expenses and savings are accounted for anything left can be spent how you choose. That's why it's called a disposable income.

Are you into booze or cigarettes? Go wild. Do you go out to the casino and blow some of your money on infinitesimally small odds? That's your decision. Do you fly around the country getting signatures from your favorite celebrities? Fun, but too expensive for me. Do you like collecting guitars or old records? Not my interest personally, but I would too if I liked music more. Do you collect 1/8:1 statues of half naked anime characters? Not my thing, but you do you.

I like video games and Star Wars, so I'll just buy things related to those instead. And I won't regret not spending my money on the hundreds of other things I could have spent it on but wouldn't enjoy.

  • Fear is not real. It is the product of thoughts you create. Danger is very real, but fear is a choice.

OOoook, you guys gotta chill bro, you took my statement in the wrong way. I said nothing about being against music, don't twist my words around, because FYI, I played the clarinet for several years and I enjoyed it. What I meant was that it was pointless to buy SEVERAL expensive guitars when ONE guitar would just be fine. Seriously, you guys don't even know my bro, he's very passionate about music, BUT when he buys a $1000 guitar sometimes he doesn't even play it, OR touch it. He just has it to have it. THATS what I meant, and I clearly stated that I don't give him s*** about what he does with his money because its none of my damn business, and those guitars make him happy regardless if he plays them or not. So when they get on my ass about my sabers I bring up this point and they see that they're being hypocrites. That and he bought an ASP saber too.
Light and darkness, you cannot have one without the other. To achieve equilibriem you must be in harmony with both; the path between.
