I charged my battery for a few hours and the light always stayed red. never turned green. Is it supposed to turn green?

When the battery is fully charged it should turn green, however it can take a REALLY long time for this to happen the first time around. I've heard some people say it takes ~8 hours on their first charge.

My first time to charge took really long over 12 hrs next time was under 8 been about that the on the other times too bout 8

I was charging mine for 10 hrs and the red light kept flashing. I never saw a green light. I unplugged it because I didn't want it to charge while I slept in case anything happened. So since I didn't complete a full charge, should I try again and if I charged it for 10hrs the first time how long should it take to charge.
