Hey everyone,

I'm thinking of ordering a Hero Gladius in Grey Weathering. I really like the Amber colour that's shown on the site, but because it's Hero there is the option to do colour mixing. Ideally I'd like to mix to Amber 12W+ but that would require 4 Ambers :) Then I was thinking I don't have a yellow saber yet, so perhaps I could go Amber and Green to get a Yellow out of it. Not sure if the yellow or green would go well with this weathering. What do people thing?

Hero sabers don't have to just stick the two colors together for a 12W color - you can fine-tune the strength of each channel to get any hue in between the two.

A Red / Green Hero would give you the option for anything in between, or, in standard SF colors:

Red, Blood Orange, Amber, Yellow, Lime Green, Green - and any shade in between.

Amber / Green gives you: Amber, Yellow, Lime Green, Green.

And just for fun

Amber / Deep Blue should give Amber, White, Deep Blue, and some off-white blues and yellows in between.

I guess I don't fully understand how that would work. In theory it makes sense, I just can't wrap my head around it fully. I'm a complete n00b :) I watched Phil's video on the LEDs used to do the colour mixing, and used that as the basis for my statement.

If I use the Red/Green (Christmas anyone?) as an example. From a light colour standpoint, Red (6w) + Green (6w) = Yellow (12w). So on the Hero saber, you can reduce the amount of Green (6w), so that when it mixes with Red, you move towards the Amber, Blood Orange, Red, etc...? But the wattage would always be < 12 correct? Would you mind elaborating a bit more? Your help is greatly appreciated :)

Pretty much. The Hero saber has a PC configuration tool with blade color previews and a couple sliders to adjust the strength of each color. I forget the slider values, but let's assume between 0-100%.

Guesstimating values, but something like:

100RR 0GG = 6W Red
100RR 50GG = 9W Orange
100RR 100GG = 12W Yellow
50RR 100GG = 9W Lime
0RR 100GG = 6W Green

LED colors can vary a bit in production, so your 12W color might sit a bit closer to Lime or Amber. Your perfect Yellow might be 100RR 77GG or 92RR 100GG. The software lets you fine-tune the color to your liking

The board also lets you save preset color configurations, so you can literally swap between Consular Green, Sentinel Yellow, and Sith Red at a flick of the wrist.

EDIT: I'd written up a post on understanding Hero LED combinations. Perhaps it'll help you better understand your options and cook up a new color set you hadn't considered.

Thanks so much Kouri!! That post is great. I think I will do the Red/Green as it gives a great range of colours.
