TOPIC: Weekend original trilogy vhs marathon

Weekend original trilogy vhs marathon 2 days 21 hours ago #17868

I don't think it's all Lucas's fault that the scripts were bad. After all, he did write the screenplay for the original trilogy WITH HELP. He has even admit that his directing skills were rubbish when IV was made. So i can imagine the pressure he had when he was making I, II, and III. I've heard on many sites that Lucas wanted help from his friends (Spielberg, Coppola, & Ron Howard) on the prequels, only to be turned down because they were too afraid of messing up Star Wars. Ultimately, Lucas had the most help in ROTS, which would explain the increase in quality.

It's a shame that the prequels never can live up to the original trilogy, but Lucas sure freaking tried if you include the fact that he worked on it by himself. I also love how both films had different influences. The original trilogy took influence from Kurosawa and western films, while the prequels borrowed from Greek literature and stories about the Roman Republic.
Mankind's greatest enemy is never a terrorist or villain. It's always mankind itself that poses a threat to everyone. He is as foolish as he is good.

Not sure if I'm allowed to state this here, but the Star Wars Community has managed to recreate the original trilogy from a variety of means. I was reading about it, it's called Star Wars Despecialized Edition. This way you can get the original trilogy with the old school effects on DVD via Torrent sites.

I have these from an ebay order made in college. I realized that I had the spec edit VHS and was about to get the DVDs... but no originals. My VHS player broke years ago, but it feels great to have these originals around in very good condition.

I don't mind all of the changes, especially ESB where I think all of them are more than acceptable, but yeh...some obvious CGI here and there, Han stepping on Jabbas tail, the ROTJ Jabba dance/sing routine, Vader's Noooooo and the Force Ghost swap.... ugh.

I love these movies tho, either way.

I have those poster hanging in my office at home, and at my office at work. I feel an office should reflect its occupant, and in my case, they do! B)
Imagine what you will know tomorrow....
