After seeing TFA, i finally decided to buy a lightsaber from eBay, a Master Replica one.

Knowing only that the one seen in TFA is the one passed down from Luke, in turn from Anakin, I immediately snapped up an Anakin Skywalker MR.

Only when I came on here and started reading about all the lightsabers and their history, that the Graflex went through a couple of iterations and the one I have is a direct copy of the one from....RoTS :(

Im bummed about it now, knowing that it was used by my least favourite character in the worst film of the prequel trilogy (IMO) and theres other versions out there used by crazy awesome characters.

Ah well.

I actually prefer the RoTS version the best out of the 4. I like the gold accents, the sturdy switch that replaces the flimsy looking lever on the control box, the knurled section around it, and how the control box is slightly lower, making it easier to spin. I like the RoTS Obi-Wan over the ANH version for similar reasons.

Though when my Korbanth Graflex 2.0 kit comes in I'll build it in the TFA setup.

Actually I like that I have the Legacy 1.0. I hope to just get the 2.0 control switch so I can have the ability to switch between the two when ASP is up and fully running.

I am a little surprised that given the popularity of the Graflex, SF doesn't actually have it as a standard "for sale" saber. I know it is part of the ASP but I think given the significance of this saber in the whole Star Wars history, it should be a core saber. I mean, fans are paying money to buy sub-standard products from other makers and empty Graflex hilts to modify etc. ....

Also, I noticed the switch section seemed to be antiqued in black...anyone else catch this? Or were my eyes deceiving me....

Thoughts?

I don't think so.

Look at this picture:

Looks pretty normal (silver) to me.

That scene was deleted from the movie before release. Also, look at the picture I posted and next time you watch the movie pay attention when Rey is holding up the light saber at Luke and how weathered, beat up the saber really is...battle worn!

I checked again. Here are some pictures from the movie and I still think the switch section (basically the whole saber) is silver. Yes it is a bit more used but nowhere near black if you ask me.

Yeah, I just saw the ending again and it's silver there as well. It must have been the lighting with the dark and snow.

Same situation with me, however. After seeing Shameem and his conversion video with his Anakin MR lightsaber, I'm actually looking forward to giving it a try

All I have is my E-reader and getting good details with my nerve DMG is next to impossible. I may try it but hands always have some shake. Though I can still shoot a gun well?

Or, wait, Google to the rescue! I found this. There are some pretty big differences between them, it seems.

ANH's is still my favorite.

One little addendum - That RotJ Vader's actually a stunt prop built off a leftover Graflex. The Hero hilt was the same as ESB, so, technically, your Vader's both ESB and RotJ.

I didn't know that.
Somewhat relatedly, I think that the one that appears in Battlefront (the new one) is the ROTJ stunt. So that's mildly interesting.

Personally, I think the ESB Vader Saber is the best looking one. I don't like how on the ANH one, the grips don't go all the way up to the control box ( bleh, control box, I think I just threw up a little in my mouth ) and the ROTJ one looks like it was made by a fan and built from junk in their garage to sort of look like Vader's. I really hate control boxes and the ROTJ one is huge and it looks likes it's growing a second one on top of the first. Shaking fists in the air...... DAMN YOU CONTROL BOXES, DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!!

Yup yup. It's also, apparently, the reference model for the new Marvel comics. That actually drives me nuts, since the comics fall between ANH and ESB.

Check the pommel, it should have a year on it (certain models came out in certain years). If it says 2005, it is the ESB one, and along with the ROTS Anakin was one of the last ones made by MR before being bought by Hasbro, who would still use the MR name for a while.

And while in the subject of Vader sabers, there is actually a fourth one that was designed for ROTS but isn't shown. A model was made, and was featured in the Visual Dictionary for that film:

I still like the ESB one best, but I do like the card used on the box in this version.
