Honestly I have no idea WHAT style I use :)

I read a dissertation, and asked a few other forums, and apparently I use primarly Soresu, but am competent with all styles.

Usually, I use footwork, not fast and dancing around, but sure, sweeping movements around an opponent, usually moving in circles. I tend to use a defense style, testing and blocking, getting a feel for an opponent, before striking with a counter strike to end the battle. However, if an opponent is skilled enough, I don't "have" a style, I combine all my fighting experience to create a new style on the spot to try to counter the particular style that the opponent uses, focusing on their weakness to create openings allowing me to strike and end the match.

Against a Really good opponent I use a style I call Still Water. I force my mind to be empty of all thoughts, no distractions, no long plans, and simply react, allowing my body and reflexes to act and attack without having to slow down by thinking about what I'm doing.

I tend to use Shii-Cho with Initiates, Makashi with Padawan, and Soresu & Ataru against Jedi Knights.

Shien/Djem So is my preferred style when practicing blaster deflection (against nerf darts).

So with that said, I guess I am a Niman practitioner.

Personally, I prefer the deadly Ataru and Juyo. Juyo being my most favored. There's just somethign about having that kind of ferocity in each swing while still putting speed and brute strength into it that makes me love it. And then Ataru simply because it's acrobatic and quick, leaving an opponent not well-versed in the art of saber dueling with very little room to make mistakes.

A form I am learning at the moment is Makashi.

I've been trained in iaido (a traditional Japanese sword style), and I use Niman in conjunction with Jar'Kai. I use two shoto.

I use Krav Maga!

Wait, wasn't that the question? :p

I'm a Niman user. I still don't get why it's called the Way of the Rancor when it's also called the Diplomat's form. Is a rancor diplomat? You have 3 hours, calculators are forbidden.

Wait, really?

I have a friend currently learning Krav Maga (as a hobby/self defense class, not as military). It's not easy to describe the feeling of knowing someone about your height and weight who could kick the shit out of you without batting an eye.

Yes I do practice Krav Maga.

Let me tell you a story. I used to go with 3 friends of mine, we usually sparred together and trained together. After I passed my first exam and successfully gained a rank, one day at training, there were 3 of us. So I started training with a girl, who was no more than 1.6 meters (around 5'3" or something) and who weighed at most 50 kilos (110 pounds). And we were having fun, and training, and repeating the moves, etc ... And at some point, she showed me that some of my moves were wrong, so she helped me correct them. And then our master said: alright kids, time for combat.

Mind you, combat during training is the speed of the combat without the strength in the hits. We're training, not fighting for our lives here, we try not to damage our partners.

And then she kicked the shit out of me during the following 5 minutes. Litterrally 5 minutes, where I didn't even know where the hits were coming from, where they were going to land, and why does my knee hurt, and what was that kick I felt in the protection for my nuts, and why do I have the feeling I'm going to get a blackeye if I'm not very very careful?
So when you say that someone your height and weight can knock you out between two breaths, imagine when someone who looks a lot more fragile than you can do the same ;)

However, don't get the wrong idea. The main philosophy of Krav Maga is indeed to neutralise as fast as possible, there are no forbidden hits or strikes. But, the goal is never to maim or kill the opponent. Never! Not even in the street. Yes, you can do it. It does not mean you have to.
Whoever tells you the opposite is being taught by a bad master.

Still, it's very enjoyable and helped me greatly (as I wasn't a very confident person in conflict situations) to feel more confident about myself. And when things start to get heated, I tell myself: You can kick the shit out of this guy in 3 seconds if needed.
And it really puts things in perspective and helps me stay calm and focused :)
