OvrcAHst, I wish you luck in your experiments, but I think your best bet is a Deep/Photo Red main LED inside of a thick-walled red dayblade. End result should be a bright, rich red core with a dark red "aura". from the red polycarbonate walls. Amber might make for a good FoC in that setup, though I might recommend Warm White.

BoostinIX, sorry, I don't have measurements on that red heatshrink. It came from a Harbor Freight assortment, and checking the website, I'd say it's the red 14-to-16 gauge heatshrink.

Thank you for the suggestion and guidance. I'm already sold on Photo Red and will be applying a DR/DR/A setup paired with a thin-walled Red Day Blade. There's still time for me to procrastinate over the 3rd colour, if deviating from Amber to as you suggest Warm white, so *me reaching for my thinking Cap* that much is determined. Will see if I'm feeling lucky as I'm excitedly curious still about the Far Red as a dedicated non-mixed and its effectiveness when mixed. To take a punt, the proverbial cat will either land just on its arse or be killed. ;)

Very nice demonstration, especially with how heat will effect LED brightness. The OCD side me kind of wants another picture with a saber with only two of the dies on (like in a simple FoC setup) in the mix.

You might actually get your wish. One of my tri-stars apparently only has two functioning LEDs, so I'll see about getting a Single/Double/Triple comparison up this weekend.

I was just wondering about this! I've been noticing a lot of people around me do their own installs and I'm currently researching it myself. Thanks for all the good info!

Yes, double-post, but exciting update. Just got an email from LED Supply that Rebel Limes are now being stocked.

Also Cree XP-E2 are getting PC-Amber as an option.

Lime's a personal favorite of mine since it's the brightest single-color LED available and sits, visually, between Amber and Green.

PC-Amber should be neat, since it's tying with Green for the brightest color available in the XP-E2 line.

My ASP hilt needs to get here ASAP so I can do some color mixing.

(If anyone's wondering what makes these colors so special - remember the Photon Blade that takes Royal Blue LEDs and makes super-bright Lime Green blades? Same idea. PC Amber and Lime are Royal Blue LEDs with a phosphor coating to produce really bright light)

Do you know when/if PC Amber will be available for custom 3 up LEDs? I already got one with XP-E2 Amber's and White, but the only place I've seen the PC Amber option was for A/A/A LEDs.

Might just be an oversight, but worst case scenario, you can probably contact them about a custom order. Even though they only offer the quad pods in white, I've heard of folks custom-ordering quad-cree XP-E2 stars on the same PCB, so getting a Tri-Star with PC Amber should be doable.

Anyone have any experience with Naigon's Z6 RGB? Does the duel die of each color make a big impact? In theory I would think yes but I wonder how it compares to any other RGB?

Naigon said it was brighter than a Tri-Cree, but not twice as bright, since the individual Luxeon Z die weren't as bright as the XP-E2.

Either way, it seems he's phasing them out for a custom RGB Tri-Cree star he's developed for easier wiring. Even replaced the default Igniter files to be pre-configured for this NECree star, rather than the Z6.

Yeah I just saw that on their website so I guess that answers that. Thanks Kouri.

Sent an email last night. Just got this response:

Thank you for the email. I had our webmaster add the PC Amber to the custom LED page for you.

Checked the page, PC Amber added to custom stars. Awesome.

Ordered a one-up PC Amber for testing. Wound up a nice golden yellow (definitely different from the more orangey standard Amber).

This might also explain the changed formula for SF12W+ Yellow, since I recall the spec sheets for the 6W+/12W+ LEDs list PC Amber, while the original 6w/12w were standard Amber.

I'll probably cook up a pcA/pcA/cW tri-star for a personal build later on.
