What battery holder would you recommend?

I haven't really found anything so far. Someone on FB did recommend a battery, though: https://m.fasttech.com/product/4881101-authentic-soshine-ncr-18650-3-7v-3600mah

Said it was the shortest 18650 out there, but it'll be moot without a holder.

Good luck with finding a battery holder. I sourced three separate vendors for a battery holder that would hold a NCR18650B but all of them were too small. I ended up doing what the SF custom shop does: wrap a Li-Ion 18650 3.7V 2600mAh PCB in double sided tape and Velcro to get it to lodge it snuggly in the body. 3D printed chassis is probably the best way to go for a battery holder.

Yeah, I would actually prefer having a whole chassis, but I don't want to get one now and have it be the wrong size. I'm more hesitant with these ASP hilts than I would be with one that has just one possible measurement. I'm planning on at least three hilts, and would like to share this same set of electronics between them.

Right now I'm looking at one of these two chassis:

Is there someplace I can get the metal tabs that the battery have to terminals touch?

Battery tabs, possibly Radio Shack. Cool chassis by the way, good find.

I got one on Amazon that fits the SF battery.

Nice find. I'll have to grab some of these.

Thanks, guys. I have been looking for this one to come back in for what seems like months with no idea if it would fit a hilt or not:

http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/MHS-speaker-mount-V6-For-28mm-Speakers-P892.aspx

I wasn't sure if anyone had any experience with it. I was planning on going the velcro wrapped around the battery with the shielding around the whole thing route...if such a route exists. :-)

It won't fit in a SF hilt. It's designed for the 1.25" ID MHS parts.

When it comes to 1" OD hilts (like SF's), there's not a lot of chassis options. TCSS does carry 1" chassis disks, but they can only fit a 18650 battery or a sound card, not both like with the regular ones. Other than that or the few 3D printed chassises DarthRyo designed, the Velcro-on-the-battery-with-plastic-shielding seems to be the most reliable option.

If there is another option or someone has created a new solution, I'd love to hear it!

I have this small assortment of resistors.

Should I be interpreting that as 1ohm, 2.2 ohm and 3.3 ohm respectively, or 100, 220 and 330 ohms? I'm pretty sure I don't know what I'm doing, but my math says my amber led requires 1.3 ohm resistance, but I don't know if these resistors are a little too much or a lot too much. Can't tell their wattage either, for that matter, but the math seems to say 1 watt resistors will suffice.

Borommakot, 100R would be 100 Ohms. They use R like that as there is no keyboard symbol for Ohms.
For 1.3Ohms you would want one that's written 1R3 (they use the R in place of the decimal point.

If anyone would be willing to verify my result, I'd be hugely grateful. This is for my amber, FoC LED. The other two are RB LEDs, which, from my understanding, need no resistor.

I got my forward voltage numbers from the second page of this datasheet, and the forumlas from this guide on TCSS forums:

R = (VfBattery - (VfLED1 + VfLED2)) / I

Vfbattery=3.7
Vfled=2.6 (max)
I= .7 (not sure is I just an arbitrary number within the safe amperage range of the LED, in this case, less than 1000mA? Or is there an optimal number? I kept seeing 700, so I used it to at least get an estimate)

(3.7-2.6)/.7 = 1.57, which it seems folks round up to 2.

P = R * I^2

1.57*.7^2 = .769, rounded up to 1.

So near as I can tell, my amber LED requires a 2 Ohm 1w resistor.

Well, after the better part of 5 hours yesterday (and a 4 hour break), I brought my electronics to life. I'll make another thread when I have a full bodied update to share, but I was giddy when it ignited. I've got 1 minor and 1 major setback still to work through. The minor one is that I didn't count the number of quick connects I'd need correctly (There are two on the LED), so the auxiliary switch hasn't been wired yet while I wait for another batch of micro deans to arrive. The major obstacle is that right now, it's too snug to fit in the hilt. It just, almost reaches, but not quite. I'm hoping that trimming the battery holder in a couple of places will give it the needed space, but in the mean time, I'm ruing the day I chose 22 gauge wire.

But properly on topic, hot on the heels of my hilt, my first blades came today.

Thank you for walking us through this. I can't wait to see your finished product. I've got a board all wired up and yet no hilt. I just know I'm going to end up rewiring it, but that's part of the fun. :-) Can't wait to see more from this!

Thanks HotRod. I'd have liked to be done "gathering materials" at this point, but no matter what I tried, the electronics just wouldn't fit. So, I've ordered some 26 gauge wire, and I'm pretty much going to rewire the board. It was harrowing the first time. In fact, I actually ripped the positive led solder pad on the SD card side completely off at one point; I got it to work be opening up the hole and feeding the wire through to solder it on the other side. But it worked in the end, so I know I can manage it. I just hope the 26 gauge is noticeably smaller, and easier to work with.

I stared with 26 awg wire on mine and I found it easy to work with. If you've already done it once, hopefully you'll find this easier. Sounds like you found a good work-around on that positive lead. Ugh, sorry to hear it got ripped off.

We've all had to redo it once..twice..12 times. What have you. ;) Part of learning.

I'm excited to see how much nicer 30g is tomorrow after enjoying 28.

Wouldn't soldering the wires directly to the battery be an easier option or is it just for ease of replacement?

It's for the sake of being able to replace it; I like the idea of being able to swap batteries if I'm out at a con or what have you.

You could solder wires onto a couple batteries and put a micro-deans on the end of them.
