Well, my new Avenger is by no means singular, or different from most of the rest of the ones already reviewed here. The only real difference is, this one is mine!
I will admit from the outset, the Avenger did not GRAB me the first time I saw it. In fact, I saw something similar at the previous saber vendor I used to do business with (though that one was a lot larger), and while I knew it was one of the sabers where they got as close as they could to a replica (and managed to be pretty darned close) of Obi-Wan's Episiode II saber; I was just kind of "meh" on it at first glace. However, in the last couple of years, since I came to SaberForge, their version of it began to creep in. I must have read a dozen reviews of other Avengers, and looked the the glam shots on the main website hundreds of times, and every time I did, it moved a little higher on my "gotta have" list! So, after thinking about it for quite some time, I finally pulled the trigger, and man am I glad I did!
This saber, more than any other in my collection has the "feel" of a real saber! The dimensions are SO perfect, I almost expect a real laser blade to ignite when I press the button! I always thought that big pommel alone would weigh a pound, but it is remarkably light!
I think what really gets me about this saber is the varying textures, and colors. The alternating silver, and black, combined with the vented main body, and the smooth finish of the switch section. The cog-like pommel compliments the visual flow of this saber in a way that just seems so suited to it. The part I always thought would drag me down about this saber was the emitter. It seemed so...unremarkable. However, seeing it from the just the right angles in the latest glamor pics on the main site convinced me that it was a look that had grown on me, to the point where I now think it is quite elegant! The flared top, that flows into the textured black sections, and the greeblies right below. It all just works for me!
The craftsmanship of the saber is flawless. There are no sharp edges, and the saber is comfortable to hold with one hand, or two (though getting around the greeblies did present a bit of a challenge at first). The 12w+ Medium Blue LED is a beautiful shade of blue, and brilliant to behold with a blade affixed!
I could not have asked for more when I imagined owning an Avenger, and I am ecstatic to finally have one! I am looking forward to seeing how it handles in some light dueling, but I am sure it will excel in that arena as well. I love this saber, and highly recommend it to anyone thinking of getting one!
Ratings:
Craftsmanship 10/10
Styling 10/10
Comfort 9.7/10 (greeblies get ever so slightly in the way of a fully comfortable two-handed grip)
Overall 9.9/10
I know those sound very similar to the ratings that I gave my Dark Reliant, but believe me when I say, I did not just cut and paste them. I sincerely feel this positive about both sabers.
Now, the pictures. Again, some of them did not turn out great. The little point-and-shoot I used takes great pictures as long as you have the steadiest of hands. Move a little while it is snapping a pic, and you get a soft image, or slightly out of focus. As I said in my other review, I will get better ones when I have a little more time.
