The following has been on the SF Facebook page for a wee while:

SF Is looking for an artist to create a series of saber pin up girl drawings for printing on our T-Shirts. We are looking for 1-2 color designs, black and white, or black and white with a single accent color. The drawings each need to showcase one of our sabers, the sabers name, and our logo. We will need JPEG and PNG formats. We will pay artists choice of 300.00 cash or 600.00 in sf merchandise, for each drawing that meets our standards. A firm grasp of both digital and traditional art is preferred. If you are interested in creating art work for us, please send the three best examples in your portfolio. I'm no artist but I mess about with a few graphics packages etc and have submitted my own crappy designs (more just for the fun of doing them) but I'm sure there are some good artists out there that'll like to see their designs on some SF Apparel  and the chance of $600 of SF goodliness

I designed one but they did not want to use it. Word of advice, the submission process is aggravating. I went through two revisions and a request before hearing that they did not like the basic aesthetics. That would have been very useful to know before I put in the extra work, especially considering that I asked about the basic style on the first draft and got revision suggestions rather than an answer. Basically I think submit something else you have drawn first and let them hire you is the way to go. Have an agreement before you work anything up. At any rate, this was draft 3 of my design. I thought I might post it here. I will be removing the logo and words, slapping an imperial cog in the background, extending the saber, and loading it up to cafepress.

Submission process? they just said send them 3 pics so I PMd them on fb lol and not heard anything back on any of them
I know my efforts are amature at best but I only do them because I enjoy messing about with this stuff. |

Yeah we went back and forth a bit with revisions, and they apologized after the fact; it was just frustrating. For anyone wanting to try to submit, they are looking for detailed photo-realism. I don't understand why exactly as I am of the opinion that it does not read on a shirt unless someone is standing right next to you. But hey, to each their own.

Such is life for a graphic designer. The ability to juggle between your ideas and the client's is an art in itself. But ultimately if you want to get paid, it's most often the designer who has to kill his darlings to submit to the client's demands, however frustrating it may be.

So after a second rejection, I officially give up. I was pretty happy with my design this time around as well so onto cafe press it goes. That way I least get something for the trouble. Here it is in a slightly modified form with the SF logo and saber name removed and in color as opposed to the black and white. I call the design "Dark Empire"
I would be curious to hear from any whose designs were accepted about how they chose their concept and what if any feedback they received from SF. |

Thank you very much. I wish I had lol. Back in the day me and one other guy were always fighting for the "top artist" spot in our school. Fast forward to today and youll find he went on to the best art school the U.S. has to offer and I decided to become a paramedic lol.
