The SaberForge Monarch has been...

UNLEASHED

The all new Unleashed improves on the Monarch in every way possible. The Unleashed is 1.5in shorter. The covertech is now positioned 180 degrees opposite the switch instead of canted. The grips are now held on with screws and are chamfered buttery soft. On champion and hero switches are hidden in the brass control card. The crystal chamber has been completely redesigned and is MUCH more detailed and complex. This saber was redesigned from the ground up, not a single part was re used. I love it, I hope you do to!

Totally see how this design is way more user-friendly and ergonomic, but.......

I think I like the Monarch better still (luckily it seems that we still get that version in the Legacy section).

Even though I love the more elaborate crystal chamber and the fact that the fins are now actually screwed on (heard there were at times issue during shipping when some of the people handling the packages would be too rough aka the grips falling off), I do feel it has less of an 'oomph' than the original Monarch.
Maybe it's the length indeed (didn't think 1,5 inch would show that much, but it does) or the fact that the middle section right under the crystal chamber is wider on the Unleashed than on the Monarch (and doesn't have the grooves in it).

So great job on SF for making the design way more accessible so that one can actual go out and duel with it, but I think maybe some of the charm of the Monarch was that it was more of a shelf queen (just like I feel the Grand Master is more of a beauty to behold, even if you can still whack somebody over the head with it

).
So yeah, once somewhere in the future I'll think I'll go for the Legacy Monarch just because it feels a little more TFU (I dunno, I wanna call this one a bit more chunky than that one, but hey - curves aren't a bad thing

The Monarch is already strongly associated with the one we see in TFU and these changes move the "Unleashed" slightly away from the hilt we know/love. First impression: The Unleashed looks like the mass produced version of the Monarch. without the harsh edges and corners it just looks kinda soft. But I guess it definitely improves the handling, and I also thought of the Monarch more as a shelf queen anyways.

I see this one as a light side version of that with standard finish and blue LED to compliment. As soon as this damn X-mas shopping is done...
