Coincidental to Revan's return to the Forum, thought I'd share with you all what I watched recently. I thought the pieces were well constructed and definitely had great entertainment value. Hope you agree, so sit back and enjoy the marvel of the respective cinematic wonders.

This second one has tremendous delivery as a featurette on Darth Maul. Action sequences were well choreographed. (Yes screen accuracy with some Saber choices was questionable but IMO, forgivable. Plot and themes had great execution. Immerse yourselves (temporarily or completely) with the brutality of the Dark.

What were your reactions as the end-credits started to roll?

I'm gobsmacked by the second film. It was stunning. Some of the best choreography in a fan film ever. I had to pause it and look up the actor because I thought it WAS Ray Park. The special effects were film quality. It's a shame it took them as long as they say it did to put together because I would watch featurettes like that on a lot more characters in the SW universe.

The few things wrong are just me being nitpicky tbh. (a few safety pins here and there, personal preference on one or two costume choices, and yes, Mauls saber. Even US has their version of his saber and it seemed like they were using only US)

The Maul film was superbly done, though the plot snagged uncomfortably in a couple places on the Jedi side of things. But that Revan/Nihlus film was fantastic! I was a little cheesed by the opening dialogue, but every moment after was incredibly engaging. I wonder where those salt flats are. There's a pretty big place not far from where I live that looks like it could be the one they used.

Hi everyone,

I agree the Darth Maul-Apprentice film is mindblowing for a fan-flick! I saw it 2 days ago but there was a warning that it might be taken down so didn't link to it here. Thank You OvrcAHst for doing so. Some of the behind the scenes footage looked as if it was a fully funded blockbuster!

Thanks again for sharing,

Why would it be taken down? Disney themselves are hosting Star Wars fanfilm awards so infringing copyright is not an issue, especially since there is nothing really infringing about it, it's using all custom assets and even original music.

Both fanfilms are really great, but I was floored by Darth Maul Apprentice. Best SW fanfilm I've ever seen. Very engaging and great in almost every way, despite being mostly a lightsaber battle for 20 minutes. That's hard to pull off without getting lightsaber battle fatigue. A fight scene can't be too long before it gets tiring (some Jackie Chan movies suffer from this), but they managed to make it entertaining all the way through. Interesting view into Maul's psyche. I was half expecting that Jedi with the mask to turn dark lol.

Hi MusicallyInspired,

It just said on the the webpage I saw it on that "they" feared it would be pulled. I am glad it hasn't. The choreography was outstanding and well studied, the mannerisms and facial expressions from the actor playing Maul were perfect. You actually got to see what was going on in his head through his physical and facial movement - that moment where he had a split second of doubt/compassion then returned to his Sith ways, Brilliant!

For Tyeth

sorry can't remember the webpage's name.

Who feared exactly? The people who made the film or the site that shared it? It seems odd that the creators would be afraid to share what they created which was obviously meant to be seen. Star Wars fanfilms have been condoned and officially sanctioned for years now by LucasFilm and Disney seems to be continuing that tradition, despite their (sad) history of hammering down on copyright infringements.

Anyway, It's good to see so many quality fanfilms out there now. I remember following them years ago after The Phantom Menace first came out and there were some neat ones but the quality was no where near what we have now. Some awesome stuff people have come up with.

Hi MusicallyInspired,

The website that carried the story of the new film stated the worries. It might have been Comicvine or one of those sci-fi sites. They just said hurry and watch it in case it disappeared.
I'm searching my browsing history to find which site it was posted on but I have had a Windows update and it might have been wiped.(Microsoft keep nagging me to get Win 10 and sending updates, that was why I had to switch off my laptop last night!)

Hope that clarifies it,

That's a pain. I've heard that Windows 7 and 8.1 systems got a recent update that intensifies the Windows 10 upgrade nag app and called it a "security update". Uh huh. Right. Microsoft annoys me.

Hi again,

Yeah it's a pain, I have to keep it updated and firewalled etc as I use this laptop at a Community Learning Centre.(I have to keep up with the younger members on the forum!)

I think I'll take my mind off it by watching this film again, a couple of times!

Yeah, my workplace had to push out some registry changes yesterday to make that go away

When I actually do get Windows 10 I'm going to purchase a product key so I don't have to deal with the activation shenanigans when I eventually upgrade my motherboard and CPU. No need to push a free upgrade on me.

Anyways, on topic... that Maul video was REALLY good. The acting and choreography was great, and the story wasn't so strong as to conflict with any canon materials. Definitely piqued my interest in Maul as a character. I also liked what sounded like an imitation of a Wilhelm scream somewhere towards the beginning (around 3:52). The inaccuracy with Maul's saber did throw me off a bit, but the one they used looked like it might be easier to spin.

The Revan and Nihulus video, while good, wasn't as convincing. The choreography felt off, the story relied on rewriting Legends canon, and the acting wasn't too good. Maybe I would have liked it more if I hadn't watched it straight off of the Maul video.

It might have been an authentic Wilhelm scream, just not one of the ones that Hollywood and TV usually use. The original recordings are freely available out there. I love that it's still being used to this day lol. A funny little phenomenon.

The internet is such a beautiful place, far from just porn, lies & deceit. Much like the ways of the Force, for every Light there is also the Dark. It's filtering through the irrelevance and appreciating the glory that many contribute to and use as their medium that stages their performances.

Slighty off topic since it's a different franchise.. but there is a Firefly fan made film that was filmed here in the SF bay area. It's going to debut at a upcoming convention. I love how much work is going into these fan films down. The quality is superb. I am hoping we see some more in the future, maybe Old Republic stuff.

Both entertaining for sure. The choreography for the dueling in the second one is great. The females in both films are quite attractive, particularly the one in the second film. Unfortunately I can't say the same about the appearance of their running abilities... both look like they're going to fall flat on their faces at any moment when they start running. I guess it makes sense to prioritize looks over athletic ability when casting the female roles considering the likely target viewers.

I'll share this other animated fan film I really like that pits Boba Fett vs Darth Vader:

Negative, they are playing Browncoats: Independence War and another movie for free at the convention.
