TOPIC: The CHOSEN shows up in Force Awakens Art Book

I was reading "The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens" book and noticed this "Jedi Hunter" concept and specifically, his lightsabers. Of course the artist probably based them on Lukes ROTJ saber but still, they seem a bit smaller/slimmer, have no control boxes or D-rings and have the same color scheme than the SF Chosen apprentice saber... Looks good in Sith red too!

That dude looks bad-ass! And if those are trophies on his belt then he is a bad-ass!

Perhaps this was a concept of how powerful they wanted Kylo Ren to be, maybe wielding all of those lightsabers at once using the Force.

I think they may have realised they already had General Grievous with his saber collection inside the lining of his cloak. Those sabers were meant to be trophies from his past victims. Maybe the two concepts were too close to each other!

Looks like theyre all the same saber so I dunno about them being trophy sabers unless that guy took out a group of jedis that all used the same sabers??

I wonder how soon we will see this costume at conventions. The mask is amazing for it.

I can't tell you why he has a bunch of Chosen-looking hilts. They would hunt me down for sure if I did.

Lots of thought went into Kylo's design, actually, but also into the series as a whole. LIke sure, he's supposed to look a bit like Vader, but why does Vader look the way he does? They started tossing around the idea that, sure, Vader needed a life support system, but the *look* of it was styled after traditional Sith armor. With that established, the Jedi Killer (as Kylo Ren was then referred) would have a similar style helmet in line with the Force tradition of his grandfather, but he wouldn't be a straight copy of Vader.

The lightsabers themselves are pretty easy to explain, though none of the design notes cover it. Current canon still establishes Luke reaching out to Obi-Wan via the Force for help in constructing his new lightsaber, with the last components being found in old Ben's hut. Legends continuity went even further, specifically stating that Kenobi left Luke a detailed journal on lightsaber construction, including detailed drawings and plans for the old saber Ben had used since the Clone Wars.

It's implied, if not outright stated, that Kenobi's journal was the main source of information regarding lightsaber construction in Luke's new Jedi Order. Most new hilts would at least have elements, if not being outright copies, of the Obi-Luke thin-neck design. You can see its influence in a number of EU hilts. Even Kyle Katarn's saber has a thicker-necked Luke emitter with ribbed body and sink-knob pommel, just with an extended hilt and shroud work to make it his own.

One could reason one of two things: (1) The Jedi Killer, being an apprentice of Luke, built several hilts similar to the one wielded by his old master, or (2) The Jedi Killer hunted down most/all of Luke's apprentices, claiming their clan sabers for himself.
