Hi Dave,
I like to think of myself as this forum's resident thin neck guru, I have two redeemers, a prodigal son, and an exhalted
If you spoke with Phil and he said it's possible to make your redeemer without the box, and you included these instructions in your order, and it still arrived with a box, then this is an error on their part and they should be able to fix it for you for free if you ship it back to them with an RMA form off of SaberForge's warranty page. They are crazy busy during this holiday season, massive amount of orders coming in, and sometimes these details do get missed. They're only human, but in my experience Phil has been very good about ensuring customer satisfaction. So I suggest shooting Phil a quick email at

regarding this issue and see if he can remove the box for you as originally requested.
Regarding the covertech knob, my understanding is that all of SaberForge's hilts come standard with the covertech knob (except for the prodigal son, which comes standard with the tri-clip).
As for the battery charging, I don't own any warrior hilts myself (I just have champions) so I'm not entirely sure how the removable battery works. All I know is that when I plug in my charger into the recharge port in my champion hilts, the charger light is a solid red until it is fully charged, when it turns solid green. I haven't experienced a flashing red light before, so unfortunately I can't comment on what that might mean.
In terms of modifying a SF hilt with recharge port, I just recently took a 12W warrior Justicar and installed a SaberCore Crimson soundboard with in hilt recharge port. This model of the Justicar was an older model, and so it was all in one piece, which made it difficult to install the electronics. But I got there in the end. The Redeemer is one of the modular hilts, and it unscrews in several places. Sometimes the threading is glued together which makes it difficult to take apart. This is an empty Redeemer hilt that I have, I unscrewed as much as I could. I know for a fact that the copper thin neck unscrews as well, and possibly the brass section too, but I think those two are glued and I couldn't remove them:
It may help to use a hair dryer to heat up the pieces to loosen the glue before trying to unscrew it all, if you decide to do your own installation. Just keep in mind that taking apart your lightsaber and messing with any of the internals will void your one year warranty.
So yes, it's certainly possible to install your own electronics if you wanted to, as long as you don't mind voiding your warranty and you're comfortable with doing all the soldering and drilling and whatnot
And yes, the activation box itself is removable, this is what it looks like removed:
Hope this all helps!
