I came across this site via facebook in an ad that was showing up on my feed. I have to say I did not know these even were being made. I do have for the most part all the original "toy" ones from the Star Wars movies some were broken due to being young enough to actually use them.

But to cut this short I would like to get one of the cheaper models I saw on here mainly for display purposes not for actual use as I am not into the whole cosplay thing at this time. Might get into it later on though.

First question I have is if I order one with the hilt and the blade, is the blade removeable? I ask this cause if I use it mainly for a desktop display I would like to remove the blade but I don't want to buy the bladeless hilt cause now I wont have the blade to attach and show how it looks.

Second question I have is for thoses that have these. How durable are they? I saw some reviews online and I have to say most were saying not too good things about theses but that doesn't prevent me from purchasing as their cons are from heavy physical usage when the ones I am looking at at the moment is just for a novelty desk top display.

Third question, between the 6w and 12w lighting, is it worth the extra cost to upgrade to the 12w lighting? I play around with LEDs on automotive applications and I know higher wattage equals to brighter lighting but 6w more lighting I am curious if it is a noticeable enough difference to justify the actual cost.

I might have more questions that come up and I will post them here. I apologize if these questions have already been asked, I generally do a search but I am heading out right now and don have the time to do a search till some time tomorrow.

The blades are indeed removable! Also, they are very very durable and combat-proof. I have a 6w, and another on the way, and the biggest con is how often the batteries need to be changed.

The blade is indeed removable.

These sabers do do dueling :P There's a great video where they demonstrate the durability of their current blade design.

There's a couple of their high-end crystal reveal hilts that are not meant for dueling. Sabers with claws will chew the blade up quickly when dueling.

As far as brightness... I think that is an entirely personal choice. If the brighter blade is important to you, go for the 12w! No "buyers remorse" here when I went 12w :)
May the Force serve you well.

Welcome!

1. At this level of saber, the blades and hilts are separate items, so rather than being classified as "removable", it is more like you have to install the blade and secure it (via small set screw on the emitter) for it to be a complete unit.

2. They are VERY durable. All of the sabers offered from SaberForge are certified for full combat capability, with the exception of the Crystal Reveal models. There are YouTube demos of the Infinity Edge v4 blades being put to various tests of strength and endurance, and other than the odd one where a tip popped off, they all held up fine. The tips are now threaded into the blades in the V4 edition, so that should not even be an issue anymore.

3. With a Lightsaber, the rule of thumb is "the brighter, the better". I think we can all accept that as an axiom. There have been numerous threads asking the question of 6w vs. 12w, and but for a few who considered the extra cost to be of paramount concern, all of those impromptu polls were heavily in favor of the 12w version. Again, if you browse the SaberForge channel on YouTube, I believe there are some clips showing the comparison.

There you will also find a lot of clips showing video reviews of most, if not all of the currently offered models. Good information for someone looking to make a purchase. If you are looking for quality at a more affordable price, look at the Apprentice level sabers.

There some very cool models there, starting at $49 for an empty hilt (no electronics, no blade). The next level goes to $134 for a hilt, with a 12w LED, and a blade (with charger for battery). Then at the "Champion" Level the price jumps to $284, which adds sound and in-hilt battery charge to the mix. The highest level will hit you for about $504, which gives you a multi-font soundcard, and a multi-color LED arrangement. None of those prices include shipping, or a Covertech wheel on the saber, or the belt holder to connect it to. But, it does give you a saber that is worthy of display, combat, or both!

If you dive into the Elite level sabers, the starting price is $149 for the lowest and goes up from there.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply.

The batteries I saw is AA batteries for the 6w and the 12w uses a larger 3200 maH battery. I would figure if I remembered right on the 3200 maH battery should last longer before a recharge operating a 12w LED lighting system.

Maybe not so much when it comes to ones with sound though. Then again that isn't what I am too concerned about. I just want to make sure if I get one of the cheaper ones with blade that if its accidently knocked off the desk or is dropped its not going to have to need a whole rehaul internally.

I think it is safe to say I should be fine. Just need to decide on what hilt and what color for the lighting.

So far it is a toss up between the Acolyte and the Consular. I like how these two look in the weathered look. I like the Acolyte in the non weathered look as well but for display purposes I think a weathered look would look better.

FYI, I thought of some additional information, and added it to the bottom of the original post.

Well for me I don't mind paying the extra cash for a 12w system over the 6w. I just was curious how much brighter it is. In dealing with automotive LED bulbs I found out that you can sometimes purchase a cheaper 60w bulb and it would out perform a more expensive 80w bulb just from the chipset used and the use of "projector" lenses.

I will probably go with the 12w setup as well as the quick disconnects so I can change the LED out if it ever does go out considering LEDs are supposed to last a long time but there are exceptions.

I don't think I really want to spend that much money for a non dueling model for a display piece. Atleast with a dueling model they are cheaper and if I ever decide to actually use it I have something I can use.

Plus in my opinion cant beat $49 starting price over a $150 and up starting price.

No electronics, you mean as in Audio correct?

I was looking and the customization window implies they come with the electronics for lighting.

Thanks for the reply as well, I don't know if I really need sound for me but I could always install it at a later date if I decide to. Wiring is wiring reguardless if its in something like this or in a vehicle or even behind your wall.

For me what I am thinking is I would be sastified with one that has LED lighting, the blade and a table top display to show it off.

If you want the LED, you would have to go to the Warrior level which was $134. The Initiate level ($49) is just a hollow hilt.

As for a display, it just so happens that SF recently started offering their own brand of saber display. Three different models. I don't see them offered on the main website, but they are definitely available at their Etsy store.

BTW, if you do go for the Warrior level (with LED) model, and you are on the fence about what color, you could always add the Quick Disconnect option, which adds small connectors to the wires between the battery and the LED unit. This allows you to easily change out the LED unit for one of a different color. I believe adding that option is another $10, but worth it if you want to be able to make a change like that yourself.

Also, I would say that unless you are going to be asking for some kind of customization (beyond the quick disconnects), that you order from the Etsy store anyway, due to the difference in lead time. If you do want customization, then the main website store is the only way you can do that, by typing what you want in the order notes.

The difference in lead time between the main store, and the Etsy store right now, is about 10 weeks! So, an Etsy order will arrive in 3-4 weeks, and an order from the main store is more like 14 weeks. So, if you want a customization, you gotta be willing to do the time!

I want to go ahead and thank everyone for the replies I have received. I found out quite a bit more about theses products than me reading on the store pages themselves.

I have been looking at all of the sections offered from the Apprentice, to the Elite to the Crystal. I have to be honest, if price was not a concern of mine I found that the two so far that I still like are in the Apprentice class. So far the Elite which I have looked at all of them there were some good ones in there but nothing really jumped out at me. I am half ways through the Crystal section and nothing has jumped out at me yet there either.

I might end up going with an Apprentice class but upgrade it to the Tier 2 level. If I hold off and put more money up I might just go ahead and upgrade to the Tier 3 level. But so far I am leaning Apprentice class since none of the other styles are really calling out to me.
