where to find a "combat ready" Rey quarterstaff? 5 months 3 days ago #40628

I used a Jedi mind trick on my wife and convinced her not only to go as Rey for halloween, but also somehow got her to think it was her idea... Kids going as Luke and BB8, me as Obi-Wan ANH. My main goal was to be able to justify buying the graflex ASP hilt once they have in hilt recharge capabilities, and write it off as part of HER costume expense, but she also wants to look at possibly going with the quarterstaff instead. All I've been able to find online look like cheap toys, or folks on etsy that slapped together some curtain rod components and then trying to charge 10 times their actual value. Just wondering if anyone has come across one of these that would be able to hold up to some dueling, and look fairly accurate?

If you do find a nice Rey quarterstaff, please let me know. I'm probably going to go as Rey for Halloween as well. I'm working on a Sabine Wren cosplay for some cons, but not many of my friends know who she is, so for Halloween I'll go as Rey instead.

I don't know your limitations on what you're willing to do, but all you'd need to build one yourself is a metal pole, some techy looking gizmos, black paint, a welder and some ingenuity.

Could just DIY with some PVC. Convention-safe but can still take a hit.
Core (green bits) of 3/4" SCH40 or SCH80 PVC pipe or a 1" wooden poplar dowel. Both have an OD of about 1". Avoid Class200 thinwall PVC for the core - it'll crack right open on a good hit. Most of the detailing (cyan bits) would be pieces of 1" SCH40 PVC Pipe cut and slid over the base pipe. They'd need to be sanded to fit over 3/4" pipe, but should be a loose fit over the wooden dowel. Screw and/or glue to secure. Last bit of detailing (orange bits) would just be 1" PVC fittings. They should PVC-Cement right onto the 1" pipe segments. Some scrap fabric for the handles. Guitar strap to carry it over the shoulder. Could be super-accurate about building a set of rings to clip the strap to, or just get some screw-on d-rings from TCSS or the picture-hanging aisle of your local hardware store. Drew up some basic plans for a friend of mine. I'll go ahead and share them. Excuse the large picture:

I'd love to have the necessary time available to dedicate to building one myself... I have access to a full machine shop, and plenty of scrap material, and all the know-how to make it look great whilst also being plenty strong enough for dueling, but unfortunately I don't see there being near enough time available in my schedule to pull that off, even with this much lead time. I'd prefer to just overpay someone else to do this, and figure someone has to be capitalizing off the popularity of this character, and producing these. Maybe it will just take a little longer for somebody to get their production of these on line... there's certainly a market for them.
I did see a much nicer looking version available on etsy than what had previously been available there. Looks much more accurate, especially the sections that resemble the maul/windu - emmitter/pommel and the strap, but doesn't seem to be built burly enough to stand up to dueling. Maybe that's actually a good thing... not sure I want my wife wielding something she could whoop me with in the inevitability that I do/say something that pisses her off. Perhaps I've been going about this all wrong. |

Hi all,
I have just been browsing the net for durable Rey Staff replicas and found that some people are 3D printing the end/emitter parts or having them made out of rubber (great if your wife decides to whack you round the head Salacious!).
