Hey all!

Just wondering about the restrictions of the warranty that is on all sabers for a year after purchase.
If I were to engrave some jedi text messages into the hilt using a laser engraver, would this void the warranty or restrict me from sending my saber back in for upgrades such as sound and LED?

Thanks for answering my other questions btw! can't wait for my first saber!

Yes to the first question, unfortunately. I've asked about this before a long time ago and you would be modifying to saber and that does void the warranty. To your second question I'm not so sure.
Light and darkness, you cannot have one without the other. To achieve equilibriem you must be in harmony with both; the path between.

I am not 100% sure on the details towards customizations of that kind, but I believe any customization that can cause metal shavings or dust that could get inside and risk damaging the electronics will void the warranty. Minor cosmetic work, like removal of covertec knob to replace with the D-Ring/greeblies, adding O-Rings will not void warranty as there is no risk to the electronics with those kind.

I'd email them just to be sure though, better safe than sorry.

I just asked about whether or not it would void my warranty to drill a small hole for a D-ring in my redeemer, and while I didn't get a definitive response from customer service, they said they "would not recommend this", so I'm taking that as a "yes, it would give us enough of an excuse to not honor the warranty" even though I'm quite confident that it wouldn't effect the structural integrity of the hilt. Guess I will wait to do this modification until the warranty is up.

I believe per SF it's technically part of the body, or at least that how the part I want to drill is classified in the ASP parts. They only consider the part that unscrews to reveal the speaker as the pommel. It would be the analogous section to where the prodigal son is drilled for the D-Ring, or the part of the original prop that is made from a sink knob. In no way should that effect the structural integrity of the hilt, or get anywhere near the cavity that contains the electronics, but I don't want to void the warranty.

What I did was remove the covertec knob and use that screw to mount my D-ring. That way you're not drilling into the body, which creates metal dust or filings that could damage the electronics.

TCSS sells the D-ring I used for pretty cheap and it works very well.

I wouldn't need to drill "in" to the body... kind of across it. Doesn't actually penetrate the main interior cylinder, and not sure how any debris could possibly get inside that chamber.

Would look like this:

What does that look like, Zeddicuus? I'm still up in the air if I want to use D-Ring or Covertec.

Shows the few different ones they have. The first two can easily be used in place of a covertec. I used the first one myself.

Here's how mine looks with that d-ring on it. Warranty is still good doing it this way.

And it looks good, too. Thanks for sharing. Edit: And if you wanted to, it would be easy enough to reattach the covertec, right?

Definitely! You just need the proper allen wrench to remove the small bolt, swap it out and reattach. So long as you don't lose it, it is pretty small and I misplaced mine a couple of times.

Hi all,

I have a few plastic modelling tips that might help, first have a small tray or saucer with a rim to place small pieces or retention screws ect into.
Or use a piece of double sided tape on your workspace to hold the pieces on the table, both prevents them rolling away!

Hope that helps,

For Tyeth

I have a bunch of little metal trays and bowls that are magnetic and extremely helpful for just such an occasion when there's lots of little ferrous bits like set screws. They're a couple bucks at any hardware store, last forever, and infinitely useful for assembly and disassembly.
