I would not sudgest anyone try this it could have gone much worse if the thief had a gun or was a more capable combatant. Glad you and property made it out of the encounter intact.

Well, looking on the bright side, you helped capture a guy who would probably have just continued on breaking into everyone's cars. Even though the cops responded quickly, there was no guarantee he wouldn't slip away before they could get him. That's a win in my book, although it is a bit risky.
