Hey all!

I didn't see anything on this so either I overlooked it entirely or it doesn't exist!

Seen by many other threads, many of us obviously have children. And that can involve all kinds of antics at various ages that may require special maintenance to your pretend murder machine!

So basically I'm hoping to establish tips/tricks people use to keep their saber intact while playing with the kiddies. Fun games works great too!

One of the most obvious things to have happen in impact with toy sabers and other plastic and painted plastic toys. As I'm sure many of you can attest, this can leave your saber blade looking streaking with trace amounts of paint or plastic from the toys at points of impact. Some of these impacts can be, of course, very hard and leave quite the mark. I haven't noticed any damage to my blade thankfully, just paint streaks or plastic skid marks.

One of the things that I found helps clean this up is a Magic Eraser and a lot of elbow grease. I've found for particularly hard hits using the side of a quarter can help remove that majority of skid plastic/paint without damage the blade if you are gentle, then using the magic eraser to finish the job.

Another thing has become an interesting game on our trampolene is for my to run around the perimeter with it on with the clash sound set high and effectively chase them as a dodge saber kind of game. particularly fun at night of course!

If anyone else has tips and tricks for cleaning up those kiddie catastrophes (sticky fingers, smudges, everyone knows what the germ movers are capable of hahaha) post them here for others so we can all keep our sabers looking great and taking a beatdown from those yard apes! made up games with your kids, stuff like that, so everyone can have a fun time with these sabers!

This is worrying me a bit too. When mine arrives, my 7yr old Star Wars fan daughter will want to play with it. I think you have to be strict and specify "supervised play".

If they want to clash and bash they have their own toys for that and if they're using them with your saber, then yes you're going to see those marks and damages, not to mention they could whack it on the floor, walls, each other etc.

My intention is to be this strict and only allow the supervised play. We've got some cheap "bladebuilders" if she wants to "duel".

So I was browsing etsy, and I noticed a lot of people create foam lightsabers. They create a hilt and everything. Could be a good first lightsaber for a child.

Don't know what they're called elsewhere, but "Pool noodles" or "long thin floats for swimming" can be cut down, wrapped in gaffer tape at the bottom, decorated with stickers and kids love them as lightsabers.

the clashing and bashing on my blade doesn't worry me at all. My kids are 8,9,10 and they hammer on it with their toy sabers as hard as they can and besides the skid marks from plastic/paint they can't do a thing to the blade. As I said, a coin, a magic eraser and some elbow grease and you can get those kind of marks out.

As for cleaning the hilt of potential grubby prints, I haven't had an incident yet. I would thing standard cleaner like Windex would work fine and keep them looking decent if you're careful.

Supervision is more on the side of protection as the blade on my Venomous Fury is a lot more solid than the toy sabers and I don't want to see someone whapped in the head. The pool noodles idea might go ok, but they like the glowing effects at night too so the toy sabers really go over well.

Haven't had any saber fights at night just yet due to spring thaw, but soon...soon...

To get your kids to stop messing with your gear you have to buy them their own gear. The Disney Store exclusive Kylo ren saber with the unstable blade (not the blade builder model, not the force fx model either) is cheap and it is made of plastic and wont ruin your house too bad.

To get kid grime off the blades I use goo be gone. It works great for me and gives the blades a nice shine without ruining them. I also use it to take kid grime off all my hilts and so far it hasn't caused any damage. I will come home sometimes and food and fingerprints will be stuck to my Luke ANH MR graflex (of course everyone denies touching it haha) and the goo be gone will make it shine like brand new. Just don't use it near any electronics or near any rubber grips with adhesive as they will get ruined.

My son has about 6 different toy sabers, but still... it's DADDY'S TOY!!! Can't keep their paws off that tempting item ya know? heheh.

Goo Be Gone huh? I will keep that in mind! I keep mine up on a 5' shelf so they can't reach easily but I do bring it down for them to mess around with outside. They are quite careful with the hilt itself and they only swings it in open areas (or at other people with sabers) the long blade throws them off balance which can be amusing though hahaha!

Thanks for sharing that one, that will be super handy!
