Hello, everyone. I am having an issue with cosplay as it pertains to my venomous fury hilt. This hilt is so evil looking and it really completes my Dark Jedi cosplay character BUT I think most comic conventions have very strict rules on what kind of "weapons" you can take in with you. The venomous fury (as well as my wife's disciple) have very sharp points on the top end. You could literally use it as a weapon if you wanted to/needed to. So that leads me to my next question...

Has anyone ran into a problem at any comic cons with these hilts? in particular, San Diego CC or Denver CC? Should i just play it safe and bring my Arbiter with me? Or, dare i say, an ultrasaber? (cringes) lol

Please let me know. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I have an US Scorpion. It's been to a few different conventions, and amused some police officers, but the only times I've been told a direct no into taking it anywhere was the movie theater. At the renn festival, they told me I may have to peace bind it if any of the security had a problem (I'm still lost on this; I guess they would stick a tennis ball on the end).

The last convention I went to, I was taken to Con Ops for them to examine my blaster to make sure it didn't actually fire, and they said the saber was 100% okay -- and asked if they could play with it. :P

"Peace binding" is usually used for actual swords, knives, and the like, and is (in my experience) done by tying a red ribbon or string diagonally across the hilt and handguard and around the belt that the sheath or scabbard is hanging on, so that the weapon cannot be drawn while the ribbon is intact. Not sure how that would be done with a lightsaber.

Thanks. I don't intend to use the "blade" with it and hope that our upcoming CC is liberal with the costume accessories. We shall see!

Thanks again

Hi Everyone,

I have just read through this thread and saw ManedWolf's reference "I'm still lost on this; I guess they would stick a tennis ball on the end of it" and this image popped into my head..

That is SOOO NOT a good look for a saber!

I am hoping to go to a comic/sci-fi fair in my town later in the year and hope to spread the SaberForge word there!

Kind regards,

For Tyeth

I go to lots of conventions and have seen that it really depends on the person you get to do the peace bonding. Some of them are lazy and some are hard asses. Some venues are easier then others. I usually don't have this issue but with my new venomous fury i haven't tried this yet but some conventions sell metal/wood blades and weapons in their conventions so if the person gives my issues i just say hay look i could go into this venue and BUY a metal sword so cut me a break. Usually they are nice enough to let you go in with it.

Hell i had a friend take in a real pistol and had the firing pin removed. They freaked out and he got a cop to come inspect it and the cop said yep the firing pin is out and its safe and he got in..... lol
