So all my Saberforge lightsabers, my Fallen, my Bane, My Redeemer are all 12 watt + super blindingly bright LED's. Except for my poor 6 watt Prodigal son that I bought way back in 2014 before there was even 12 watt.
Little Lukes ROTJ saber can not hang with any of my other saberforge sabers when it comes to brightness and its very sad about it. The other sabers make fun of it. They say its dim and they cant even see it. They make it sit at the 6 watt kiddie table all alone while they hang out at the grown up 12 watt table.
My prodigal son wants desperately to be a 12 watt + so it can be cool again.
Does any one know if Saberforge upgrades older sabers from 6 watt to 12 watt +? Like if I send it in to them?

I know, I know, I gotta email them, and I will, I just wanted to see if any one has ever done this before and how it went for them.

Well as far as I know Saberforge will upgrade between tiers (ie Initiate to Warrior etc.) so I don't see any particular reason why they wouldn't be willing to change out your old LED for a newer brighter one. I can't personally vouch for it, but really do see no reason why they won't do it.

Well it wouldn't be a tier jump. Its a champion tier saber and since the soundboard is still as good as it was 2 years ago I only want the LED upgraded from 6 to 12 watt +

Yeah I realise that, but I'm saying, if they're okay with upping the tier they are probably okay with a simple LED swap out.

Is the sound a Sabercore Viridium or Crimson? If it's a different board the battery and board may not support the 12w+ LED module. Maybe Jaden or Kouri could chime in with their extensive knowledge of saber electronics. Sorry I can't offer any more, just wanted to mention this possibility. Good luck.

Oh yeah, there's a possibility the saber's electronics may not support the 12W+ LED, but even so I should imagine SF would be able to gut it and put new ones in. It would of course cost more, but if that's the only way to get it brighter it might not be that bad an idea.

I'm no electronics expert myself, but I was under the impression that the LEDs still connected in the same way, and the only restriction to a change would be if the power supply could provide enough for the 12W+. Still, would like to hear from someone with more knowledge on the matter.

It is a sabercore viridium. But an older one, from back before there were 12 watt LEDs at all. So yea I don't know if it will power a 12 watt +

Well yes of course they could. I was merely entertaining the idea that his current sound board may have to be changed as well, because of a possible incompatibility. Just thought it was worth mentioning a total swap may be necessary.

Yeah, its a good thing to mention Ottomatix, I had thought of it but then forgot to mention it lol. Maybe I shouldn't try to offer help at 4 in the morning...

And im not opposed to that if that's what has to be done to make it happen. Although I do hope it can work with my viridium board. The early runs of sabercore boards had some hickups in the way they worked that made them unique, such as swings overrding blaster blocks, so you could actually start a blasterblock and then cut it off with a swing, which you cant do on newer viridium boards.

Kouri and Snakeeyz are more knowledgeable about LEDs than me, but I see no reason they wouldn't be able to just swap out the old 12w for the new 12w+.

This THREAD goes into the differences between the LEDs.

EDIT: missed the part about which sabercore you had.

SF doesn't post specs on all their boards, so I can't go in and look up the technical answer.

My answer's the same as what's been posted above a few times.

1) So long as you're using an 18650 lithium-ion, yeah, the battery can support a 12W+ LED.
2) So long as the board transistor's capable of handling 4A+ of current, yeah, the board can support a 12W+.

It's the second one that's an issue - I've no idea how the old Sabercore boards are assembled. If they're using those 2.5A transistors that the NB uses, then upping to 12W+ is a no-go. But if the circuitry's relatively similar to the new boards, then yeah.

TL;DR - Just send that email to customer service. I don't think any of us are going to know because the information just isn't there.

I guess I missed the part when he mentioned which Sabercore he had. Ignore what I said.

I did send them an email the same day I made this thread. I mentioned I had an older saberforge viridian board to. Haven't heard back from them yet.

Nice, that's not all that bad to be honest. Your saber can finally join the others with their 12Ws :P

Yep. Purchased a gift certificate to cover the cost, emailed customer service back with the gift certificate order#, filled out the rma and now my sabers on its way there for a 12 watt plus upgrade. It was pretty painless honestly.

Glad it all worked out. How long did it take for you to get your gift certificate info? I just grabbed one last night to take advantage of the $20 for $100 deal.

Pretty much instantly. All I needed was the order number to email back to India so she could apply it to the upgrade. The order number was emailed to me right away,

Just for anyone that may have been following this, I got an email from India yesterday that my 12 watt + LED upgrade is done and my prodigal son is on its way back to me. The whole affair was pretty painless and India was great to deal with.

Psyched :woohoo: :woohoo:
