I was wondering, is there either a paint or coating procedure that allows parts of a saber hilt look like it has electrum detailing? For those of you who may not know, the detailing is featured on Sidious' saber as well as Mace Windu's, looking like a metallic gold colour as shown here:

Yellow anodizing is technically an option, though one most folks don't have access to.

Alternatively, DuPont makes a "metallizer" paint series. The idea is to base coat in silver, second coat in a clear color (yellow for gold, blue for cobalt, etc) and then clear to protect.

I've seen this done with aluminum Captain America shields (skipping the silver paint since the shield is already polished metal). Mask them off, spray with transparent red and blue, then clear.

I hear the Metallizer line can be a bit tricky to get even colors with, but it's a start. There should be other brands of transparent yellow that should work fine on SF polished aluminum.

Thanks, this is a pretty interesting idea to me should I eventually get a saber customised, and I will look up some of the things you have suggested to see how available these are.

You can get parts powder-coated also. Had my Archon powder-coated @ SaberForge Customs last year.

Here's another saber they custom powdercoated also.

Wow, those are beautiful. That's almost exactly the colour I would want for it too.

Ottomatix, may I be so bold as to ask how much (or just ballpark figure) that cost, and was it done as an extra on a standard order or did it have to go through the custom shop?

I was going to post a pic of my Guardian as an example, but Ottomatix beat me to it ;)

It has a brass powdercoat on the shroud and emitter lip, but it looks more lightish-gold in person.

As I said before, it is a beautiful saber Synergy. A man of fine tastes :)

After looking at a few more powder coating examples I think it would be better than some of the painting options I've seen, but it will be a while before I get any of these on a saber anyway. Still, its good to know ones options, and I'll have plenty of time to decide/find out more.

To both Synergy and Ottomatix, how durable is the powder coat? Is it likely to chip away over time, or is this stuff solidly attached to the hilt?

@Amenthea this saber was purchased and customized via SaberForge Customs. This brass powdercoat cost me right around $100. plus the price of the Initiate hilt.

@Grand Admiral it seems very durable. The part I had refinished, is covered by 2 shrouds and not really exposed to potential impacts.

@MrSynergy, didn't mean to ninja your post, but I've always admired what you had done to your Guardian. Thought it was a better representation, of this type of finish.I wish I'd remembered that it was yours and to acknowledge that fact.

Kind Regards!
