Maul survived! Anakin and Luke both survived being shocked with force lighting. Windu was force thrown out of a window of a tall building shaped like a mushroom. Anakin was burnt and 3 limbs severed, he barely survived. As powerful as Mace Windu allegedly was, I've always suspected that he survived that encounter. Now his return in Rebels? Maybe, but I don't imagine his character will appear in the new trilogies, just to old I think. Possibly in the alleged Kenobi films that are being whispered adout. We shall see but I'll put my money on an appearance in Rebels.

If it makes a good plot and sells lot of tickets, and strengthens the SW franchise, then Mace will resurrect from the dead. Anything is possible.

It would certainly be interesting to see Mace's view on Jedi versus Luke's, considering he seemed to be one of the strongest supporters of the traditional, bureaucratic Jedi Order.

I think it's plausible to say he lived. Luke took the force lightning repeatedly, but wasn't blasted out a window with it. Mace jumped down into the arena from a good height while taking off his robe and deflecting blast with ease. The only problem is wookiepedia list him as 50ish at the time of the clone wars. That would make him 104-106 during TFA. I could see him appearing in a training montage as a force ghost on saber combat in EPVIII. That or have him in one of the anthology films.

Well SW is a sci/fi and fantasy movie, so making reasons for Sam Jackson to be alive and younger looking than Luke isn't an issue. If you look at the SW universe he really has a good chance to be alive. Should he be alive? No it takes away from OB1 and Yoda, a random Jedi Knight is one thing, Mace Windu is just to much. IMO

I wouldn't be even a little surprised by Mace's survival. I don't think that means he's still alive, though, just that he survived. But I can't imagine much else for them to do with his character, right now.

That's something that I've been wondering about a bit lately. When the original trilogy came out, it made it sound like Yoda and Obi-Wan were the last Jedi. Then the prequels came out and you saw just how many jedi and students there were, not to forget the mention of warning any remaining jedi to avoid the temple. Then with Rebels you have another Jedi as well as Ashoka. I've always wondered just how many Jedi actually managed to survive after Ep. III and what's going on in Rebels and just kinda hid out in exile like Yoda and Obi-Wan. I mean, on the other side of that coin, you'd think that maybe Luke or Yoda would have pointed out that they could notice someone else via the force.

I've always treated it as, yeah, a number of Jedi survive Order 66, but by the actual beginning of Ep IV, Obi-Wan and Yoda are really the only ones left. One of my main qualms with Rebels is how shortly before Ep IV it takes place, putting Kanan and Ezra in a position that feels like it will conflict with Luke's arc.

See, I've thought that too. But I would still think that even if there were more than Obi-Wan and Yoda, there's a good chance they stayed in hiding. Yoda and Obi-Wan say that they haven't heard from any other Jedi and Bail knew about those two. Even saying to find Obi-Wan may have been a gamble to see if he was still alive or not. In light of seeing that the republic is pretty much done and armies are hunting down the remaining Jedi, it seems possible that any few remaining might also have the opinion that they were "the last surviving Jedi" and didn't attempt to go up against the empire directly. I think my one friend had the best answer to that question though "as many survived as they want to have survived or can come up with stories for". |

Also, there is a possible explanation for why Obi-Wan and Yoda could not sense other Jedi in the galaxy and thus believe Luke/Leia was their last hope... although the idea does stem from Legends. In the Thrawn trilogy Luke revisits the evil cave on Dagobah, and while he's there he theorizes that Yoda intentionally chose to hide in its proximity because the dark side power of the location obscured his light side presence from the Emperor and Vader, in some ways canceling each other out and making the place seem like just a random asteroid. If this is true, it's possible that Jedi with similar lines of thinking may have survived the Civil War without violating the movie canon. In the same vein, these places would be very isolated and it may have taken them the 30 years to even learn that the Empire had been toppled... especially if they are suppressing their affinity for the Force.

In canon i wouldn't be able to say, but in the EU novels, specifically Allegiance and Choices of One, it's stated that Mara Jade uses a purple-blade saber, the crystals for which she received from the emperor with the notion that that colour was only seen once in recent history. Which leads me to believe that Palps recovered Mace's saber after his hand got cut off, and he kept the crystals for future use |
