The parcel is sent priority and the signature required is usually made to make sure the toblerone of awesome was accepted at the destination address. Anyone in the residence can sign for it. If you use the slip to pick it up at the local post office, you need to bring your ID to verify name and address. Name and address match for a simple pickup and signature.

I know that if you have a P.O. Box that you put a signature on file for anything delivered that requires a signature so that the postmaster can sign for it and put it in your PO Box. At least they usually do that. I know that they don't deliver mail to my apartment anymore since I signed up for a PO Box so that's likely what will happen. Either way, I know that when I see mine has arrived online I'm going to stop by the post office before they close in the event I do have to sign.
