Hello guys, I just ordered a saber a couple days ago and now I am wodering if I took the wrong lenght for my blade 32" inch. Anyone have a photo showing the two size? I am worried about my saber could be too short. I already have the Kit Fisto's saber from signature replicas and I size it, the blade is about 32" but I mate today told me that he has the Windu's saber from master replica and it saw an acolyte from saberforge with 32"... the problem was that he said it was more short than his own saber (windu)... that's why I am looking for some pic.

Thank you guys.

The picture wont tell you anything, the length of the blades are listed, a 32" blade is a 32" blade. What can make the difference is the depth of the blade holder in the saber, since unlike the hasbro sabers, the blades are removable. I don't know the depth of the holder in the acolyte, but if you did order that (or any apprentice saber) the 32" blade is the common consensus for the best length for the apprentice sabers.

On a non-removable blade like I assume Kit Fisto's is, you are measuring from the emitter to the tip, wheras the SF blade is measured from the bottom of the blade, which depending on saber is some way into the emitter, not right at the end.

There is no wrong length, it depends on personal preference, but can also be height based. I'm around 5'9" and I find it perfect, although I haven't yet handled a 37" blade, and likely could manage one just fine. 26" will be easier for spins, 37" inch is the closest to the canon length of a saber blade, and 32" inch is the solid middle ground.

32" is a common size many use since it is more balanced compared to the 37". 26" is typically used for children or people that want a 'shortsword' style saber.

Whether it is good for you or not is a matter of preference. I prefer the 37" blades as it feels more authentic (original movies, books etc always stated the blade was 1m in length). I'm also 6'3" so the extra length does not affect my ability to use it and the balance point doesn't change too much.

Odds are you chose well going with the 32" for a first one.

Depending on the Saber, you may loose up to 2 inches of your blade to the blade holder. for example, a thin neck has 1/2" deep blade holder but the Graflex has a 2" deep blade holder. So 1 32" blade will appear to be longer on a thin neck than a Graflex.

I have to agree on the type of saber and your own height mattering.

32" is definitely easier for spins and more active use. It's likely a more stable blade for standard neck sabers too since the pivot point is more flexible. I haven't tested it in a thin necked saber, so I am just basing this off of my understanding of construction and limited physics.

37" is a bit harder for spins and stuff as it does shift the pivot point a bit more forward. In a thin necked saber, it can make spinning work on the thin neck instead of the control box. I don't know how it would impact the balance of a standard neck saber, but the deeper socket makes me think there may be less of a pull on the very end, so the pivot point may not shift as far toward the blade. Also, it can make it a little unwieldy for faster combat if you are shorter with either type of saber.

If you are under 5'7" it is probably better to go with the 32". If you are 5'7" to 5'10", either blade will probably work and it is up to your preferred type of saber, your balance preference, and favored style of use. If you are over 5'10", I would think the aesthetics of the longer blade may be ok overall, but the style of use and personal preference would be the only dictating factor.

Again, just my guesses and estimates based on personal experience, anyone with more experience than me is welcome to correct me where I am wrong.

I have to say some things:

1º I bought an elite saber, more concretely an avenger with 32 inch.
2º I am 5'9 tall
3ºI heard about the best length for a saber is 32' because with it you are able to do spin and that kind of cool movement

Anyone have a picture comparing the two sizes?

As I am also 5'9" I would say that a 32" blade will be just fine for you. I don't know the depth of the holder on that hilt, but I am confident the 32" will not be too short. I could wield a 37" blade as well, but I would certainly not be able to spin it as well as I can the 32" blade, as on my Guardians the perfect place to hold it to spin is right below the emitter. A longer blade would shift this forward, and make it harder.

I don't have a picture, but its really not gonna tell you much more than the length will, if you have a tape measure it will show the difference in person for you. The 37" is just 5" longer.

I'm 5'8", and ordered a 32 inch blade for my first saber. My second, which is 1 week into the wait, has a 37 inch blade. Figure I can handle either one, as the 32 looks a little short next to the various MR sabers I have. As has been said before, some on the length in lost in the socket. I suppose if you're just going to use it as a "shelf queen," you could socket the blade a little higher, but you'd probably wind up putting extra tension on the emitter if you actually decided to swing it around.

No problem. I'm sure you will find the 32" sufficient, but if you do not, it's not the most expensive purchase in the world to get hold of a 37" blade as well after the fact :)

How you are going to use it is very important. For example, I have two styles I fight in, fencing based and kendo based. For fencing, I want point I grip to be at my waist, so I like a 37 inch blade. For a more kendo style, I like the tip of the sword to be at roughly my ankle when holding my sword at my side, so a 32 inch blade is better.

32" is great and only appears short if you insist on comparing it to other sabers. On its own, it's a very fine length that's easy to handle.

I'm a 6' guy that builds his own blades. I tend to stick to 40" for cosplay, 36" for dueling, and ~32" for goofing around indoors without bumping the floor or ceiling.

Short blades are also going to light up a bit brighter than longer ones.

I'm 5' 2", and ordered a 37" blade for my black lotus. I figured I wouldn't be doing the more elaborate spins with it with the heavily clawed emitter. My thoughts on blade sizes start with the particular hilt not necessarily my height.

32" is an ideal length. i'm 5' 10" and for basic spinning, the balance is really good.

two things to consider is the depth of the blade socket and the length of the hilt, relative to the overall saber length.

now the depth of the blade socket is dependent on emitter length and led placement. with the katana 5 emitter that was sent to me, the blade goes in 2 1/4", and the visible blade length is 29 3/4". on my saber with the gladius emitter, the blade goes in 1 3/4"', and the visible blade length is 30 1/4".

the asp katana hilt is 12 3/4" long, and overall length is a hair over 42 1/2". the gladius-based asp hilt is 11 1/4" long, and a little under 41 1/2". as you can see, overall saber length will vary depending on hilt design.

Have you written a tutorial on something I can use to build a blade.
I'll order a V4 from SF if I live in the States, but the delivery to Europe is more expensive than the blade itself :(

Sorry, I still rely on US suppliers for the polycarbonate tube and machined tips.

Shipping from a European parts dealer like JQ Sabers might be more up your alley if you just need a replacement 1" blade.
