I'm still waiting on my other saber to come in, so I'm hoping this isn't something that has to be sent back.

I got my Prodigal Son just in time for my birthday and it's been working amazingly. After using it the first day or two I decided it was probably time to plug it in to charge, and it charged for a while and was fine. Since then it's been getting pretty regular use daily.

Just had a bit of a shock here though....

I was dueling with my girlfriend's son using one of the Hasbro Rey Graflex electronic sabers. I noticed that as we were dueling mine was a bit more sensitive to clashes. Well, in the middle of the duel I spun mine and it seemed way more sensitive to clashes than before and he made contact with the blade, and then.... SILENCE. No sound, no light, just nothing....

So I was freaked out a bit. Doubly freaked out when you consider it was light dueling with a kid's saber that it just died during. I came in and plugged it in for about 30 seconds, and then took it off the charger and it started right up. I turned it back off and I've left it on the charger since then.

So, this leads to my questions. Is that how the battery normally works when it runs out of charge? Was I just lucky that it turned back on after a short bout on the charger? Is there something wrong with it that I should probably have checked out?

This is my first SF saber, so I'm not sure if this is how they usually work or not, so, hopefully, the more experienced heads here on the forum may be able to shed a bit more light for me..

It's difficult to diagnose if what you describe is a consistent trait or a problem.
What is consistent with a battery with low juice is your brief description of the circumstances leading to the display of symptoms. For Sabers with Sound, Battery powers SoundBoard and LED. When said juice is low, there's a Force-struggle between them and motion/clash sensitivity is usually the first sign with little to no movement then there's also slight deterioration with blade illumination/brightness. If a solid charge hasn't been done for a couple of days since you got it, it may explain above.

Personally, after unboxing, I do a general observation of the exterior and removable parts then power-on to ensure electronics work before plugging-in until light goes Green to then follow-up with a more detailed assessment.

Do the described symptoms still persist?

If in doubt, SFCS is your friend and like seeing your GP when you're feeling off, an email to them will get you sorted. :)

I have read similar experiences before, "all was well and then came this one duel when it switched off upon impact".

Warranty is your best friend if you dueled / used under warranty conditions.

It was used under dueling conditions only. I know I haven't dropped it at all (which surprised me). I haven't had the chance to turn it back on and get some use out of it in the past couple days. I'll likely head home and turn it on to see what happens and report back.

I finally had some time to test it. The impact sensitivity seems a little touchier than I remember, but it worked normally for the 15 minutes I was using it. No duel test though.

My limited experience....

When I got my very first saber, I played around with it and it acted, weird. Then it would shut down. However, after I plugged it in for a full charge, everything worked great and I haven't had a problem since. Just my two cents.

I think you guys may be right. Since then it has been acting just fine. With as many things as the power source is controlling at once, it is understandable how it would just go out when the battery was completely discharged.

I'm actually a little impressed that I had no idea it was that low until it went out. I almost expected the sound and light to just slowly dim and get quieter, but it kept going strong to the last clash. Just have to remember to keep it charged up regularly!
